Spin-on filter spanner

After the "scary" oil analysis posted in a different thread, I'm now in the process of changing oil and bypassing the FDC.
The filter spanner I had was too small, so I improvised using the old capstan technique. Worked great.
Pardon me if it's common practice, it's not the first time I have "reinvented the wheel". :)

On some of the newer small engines we are seeing at work, we sometimes come across a filter that we don't have a wrench for. I never even thought about diong it like that! I tell the apprentices at the shop,"don't say you know everything, 'cause you learn something new every day"...... SEE! Thanks Bjorn

Bjorn, don't know how much room you have below the filter when mounted, but, I pop a hole in the bottom of the filter, let it drain then take it off. It's no to messy that way.

The filter is new, so I was planning to drain it and re install it, or is that a really bad practice? Guess it would be. Mike wants to send me a new filter, bless him, so I guess I can wait a couple of days.
I'm still draining this one,though.

Going by the oil analisys, I don't think it's a good idear to re-use it. Oil and filters are cheap, engines aren't.

Nor are they easy for most home enthusiasts to swap out. We're not talking about a 440 in a Road Runner here, we're talking about almost a ton of iron sitting up pretty high.

That filter costs ~$50....But still should be replaced.

Cranetruck, that's a great idea with the rope. Sorry to hear about your fuel mix. This is pushing me to bypass my FDC too.
