Spindle Seals and Washer Question.

I can't find a picture of which way these go. All I had when I took these apart was part of the big seal. No spacer washer on either axle. Found them on Ebay, so now will have the washer/spacer. I know the order they go from the manuals but which side goes towards the knuckle?

"...Install new spindle seal (4) into spindle with sealing lips facing outward, Install spacer (3) onto axle shaft."

That picture looks good. the dust seal needs replaced and the small rubber seal on the axle shaft is missing. Does it have a bronze washer o the face of the axle shaft?

I have seen both type washers there, bronze and plastic. Can't really say one is better than the other.

Right or wrong, when I assemble these I install the small seal right into the spindle aft the bearing then the big seal and washer on the axle shaft. Also, for those changing out spindle bearings, I use a Snap-On pilot bearing puller. This works great.

Yep, as I wrote in post #3, that pic. was taken during spindle removal so the small seal had already come off and the dust seal was later replaced, here is a close up same pic. and the bronze/spacer washer is visible, dirty but there.

So the side with the bevel on the spacer goes toward the knuckle? Thanks a bunch. I figured the large seal out but wasn't sure about the spacer and small seal.

Absolute Right, Sir!

And let me add this little trick I learned a long time ago (during my Jeepin' era): if that small seal is installed "backwards" (= lips facing the washer) it may allow some oil/grease to "leak" ( which actually helps keeping the V-seal lubed). Also - if that V-seal failed - this would better prevent contaminants coming from that side, from getting into the needle bearing and further into the hub cavity.

Oops... I was really hoping NOT to confuse anyone... just insert that small seal into the spindle as Recovry4x4 said, with the lips going in first.
