Split brake system air pack

I am collecting parts to split the brake system on my A2. I have a long style airpack currently. Can I install the improved short airpack or must they both be the same?
What's the advantage of short over long?

Great question I’m doing the same and had the same questions. I have the long style as well. Maybe peashooter will chime in?

According to the retrofit manual, the air packs can be mixed. The retrofit manual assumes the existing long air pack is going to stay while the short air pack is installed.

I don't know of any advantages with the shorter air pack. Maybe it weighs less and uses less air? Perhaps it fits the new installation better.
