I just did the doghead mod, because I have a very similar problem. starter sticking without key in ignition, after burning 3 fusible links. I fired it up, and the starter is still sticking and after I cut the battery power, the fusible link coming from the battery has roasted again. WTH! I feel like I need to pull the starter now? What is telling the starter to keep turning over? The Sol?

Spend some time reading the CUCV Help Threads stickies and you will find a lot of great info.

This one explains why the fusible links fry when disconnecting the batteries during a starter run on.

Also Olmos you need to modify your user profile to list your state of residence. Portland isn't a state as far as I know. ;-)

Went in and did the test. The old starter shorted their machine, I could have replaced the Sol. but I went for a whole new starter and sol. When replacing the starter I noticed the cable going into the Sol. was burned a bit and could have been sending mixed signals the whole time. After replacing all the connectors and burned fusible links, it fires up like a champ! hope this settles it all.

Such a bummer this is such a common problem. I feel like the original starter relay is the source but it is odd that the problem still happens even if the original starter relay is working correctly. I feel that the original Sol. is just as important to replace along with the relay switch before the vehicle is a daily driver.
