Everyday life our language is complex. Its not just words that get the point across. Also it is body language: facial expressions, eyes, hands etc. Just words spoken or textual has none of that to fill in the blanks that complete the point/information being discussed. Too add the lost body language in text (without need to write like a poet) the Emoticon was invented. Emoticon is a mashup up of the words "Emotional Connections / Emotion Icon"; its purpose is to be placed into text in order to convey some of the body language lost in written communication. Today.... we know them as "EMOJI's
"Emoji"could be thought of as a Japanese term for "emoticons". So yeah, they have an actual real purpose. IMHO Use them.
