starting issues

My son has a 1985 K5 Blazer. It sat for a month he started it and it started right up. He let it run approx 45 minutes. Tried to restart it after shutting it off, only gets a rapid clicking sound. He put new batteries in it approx 10 months ago, the terminals are clean. Neither of us are very mechanical. Sounds like bad alternator?

Rapid clicking sound usually means low/dead batteries. Test the voltages on the batteries first thing.

might be bad alternator(s).
make sure the generator lights turn on when ignition is on (power on but engine not running)
you may have to give the engine a little rev to turn on the alternators. So if engine was started and not reved up a little
the batteries may have been drained.
charge the batteries and start engine, rev it up just a tad (1000 rpm) and check voltage at batteries.
13.5-14.5 on first and 26-29 volts on the second.

a cucv might not be the best choice if you are not a tech type. they need and loved to be tinkered with

Thanks for the suggestions. He let it idle for about 45 minutes, may not have rev'ed the engine enough. Will check voltage with engine running May be a day or two before I can help him check things out.

You will want to see >26Volts from the 24v battery + to ground, and >13Volts from the 12v battery + to ground while running.

Anything over 13.7 volts at each battery is OK if they are fully charged, but your volt meter may read low. Check the batteries with a VOM.
