When I create a link in text, it looks exactly the same as ordinary text. There's nothing to show it's a link. Bad idea!

Also a very bad idea: Making every reply automatically quote the entire post to which one is replying. This unnecessarily clutters up the forum. I have seen it on other forums, and it's ugly. When there are a lot of pictures involved, it's VERY ugly.

There should be a QUOTE button for that, and the REPLY button should just open up a reply box.
I replied in the other thread you cross-posted. I will try to address the hyperlink color. You don't have to use the reply button at the end of a post, go to the end of the thread and reply there if you're replying in general to the thread.

Could you expand upon what you're talking about? Are you talking about the posts displayed in a forum? Most of them are pinned/stuck. We probably should re-eval what should be stuck there.
Yes In individual forums.
I see the CUCV forum appears now correct with "helpful threads at top then new threads.
Deuce forum has numerous threads at the top then current threads,

Thanks for reply, I know this takes time to sort .

I replied in the other thread you cross-posted.

Sorry about that, Chief. I hadn't found this thread yet.

You don't have to use the reply button at the end of a post, go to the end of the thread and reply there if you're replying in general to the thread.
That's the same situation on the other forum I mentioned. People don't know to go to the bottom, so almost every post is filled with completely unnecessary junk. It's a mess.

...It's a mess.
Not sure if this is related to the issue you are describing,,, you can edit out irrelevant portions of any quoted text when replying to any post, or you can edit it until there is nothing showing from original quote. Kind of a work-around, I think, to what your describing.

While the new system's attachment system is more robust with how it uploads/displays. It's also limited on what it can do, so unfortunately it's geared towards users posting up new images/attachments rather than reposting them. I know there's a add on for 1.5, but I'm not sure about 2.1 to address this. I will try to get that added on. (And thanks for understanding that it's best to reuse the already attached image)
Thanks! I did notice it is a lot faster on the uploads now. The "drag and drop" feature is really cool. It was always easier to re-use photos already in the archive and it doesn't clog up the server with duplicates.
So, are we able to access our photo archives now or after the add-on?

post is filled with completely unnecessary junk
I just noted that if you highlight a portion of a post, and move the mouse, a reply button pops up under the highlighted text, which will take you to the reply box at the bottom of the page with only the highlighted portion quoted. You don't have to delete all the superfluous quoted material.

But I agree, separate "reply" and "quote/reply with quote" buttons would be cleaner.

The import didn't process the permissions correctly. Even re-importing them. So I've gone through manually and updated them. If you're not able to post to a certain forum, or if you're staff and can't access the moderation tools, please let me know.
I wanted to address this one... but no joy:confused:☹

TM section rights should be corrected to block people from posting and staff should have mod rights.

G and Ty, looking at your profiles, you both are set to moderators and that group has ability to search. I might have updated it since, please let me know if you're not able to search.

IMO, The site looks a bit more user-friendly now, but I really, really appreciated the Thanks Given and Thanks Received tallies by our avatars. When compared with an individual's # of posts, it allowed us to see not only who was likely to have pertinent content, but also let us know who was likely to be appreciative of the time we might spend in an effort to help someone out with a reply. I also greatly miss the list of who had thanked us at the bottom of our posts. It gave us the opportunity to see who in particular might be kindered spirits in relation to certain mods/topics, as well as letting us tell our friends "hi bud, I liked what you did here" by merely tacking our user name in the thanks box. We're living in a society now where kids and adults are getting trophies for merely "showing up". As a result, I really don't take much stock in little trophy icons, or a rank given just because someone has been around for a long time. Really sad to see the "Thanks" portions taken away, but thanks for trying to improve the site (Please, please, please put the "Thanks" stuff back).

Complete honesty here....not a fan of the new format. This has happened on three other sites I frequent and not at all happy with it.

Also, What happened to the "stickies" at the top of each forum?

EDIT: Disregard , Found the "pinned" posts.

Thanks is now "like". And it does tally under your postbit like before.

I'd like to offer a different perspective, have you considered the fact that the previous software we ran is at end of life and no updates planned? The vendor that produces the old product is also on a downward spiral, many of the original team left to form the new company/software we're using now. Then there's the aesthetic update and software age. It was all 7+ years old. Which (and sad to say) is ancient in computer terms. There was issues starting to arise that were concerns to the integrity of the site/data. So the decision was made to "start fresh" on a platform better supported. The availability/functionality/integrity of the site are my main motivators. I don't mean this as a boast, but all of these things I speak of have improved over the years from changes that have been implemented. (Servers, hosts, software, exc.) Unfortunately not everything will work completely the same as before, or how we wish out of the box. But we'll work on making things better as we can.

I have been around here long enough to remember some other other times we changed software and if I remember right sever crash or soft ware. It's always seems to take a few days/weeks to iron all the bugs out. But in the long run it has always been better in the end. Was every one happy , no but what can you do.

Thank you Patracy and Steelsoldiers and all the mod's that work so hard to make this site great. With out you I would have a lot more grass to mow as it wouldn't be covered with trucks and trailers.

THANK YOU

...and it appears most of it has sadly been lost. As an example, recently member Oerthedge21 did us the favor of posting a thread, keeping us up to date on replacing the pistons and other engine work on his truck https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/engine-knocking-lds-456.190023/page-14#post-2247146. I thanked pretty much every post he made in that thread, as I try to do with every post of educational value that I read. Now the guy has "zero" thumbs up and "zero" trophies. Appears some of us who've made good contributions are starting at "zero". Some folks may not care if their post is appreciated or not, but I was very glad to have the opportunity to tell them that I, personally, appreciated what they'd provided, by merely hitting the thanks icon. IMO the "Thanks" system was something that put this site head and shoulders above other forums. I've always been outwardly grateful for this site, and to those who contribute to keeping it going. I understand a current standard of technology needs to be maintained, and there will always be complaints when there's change, but from this members perspective, the thumbs and trophies change absolutely sucks compared to the previous, more personal, more understandable and objective "Thanks" system.
