( M931a2 )Been working on this truck for over 3 months every weekend. Some things done to the truck are almost installed a winch kit (in progress), painted the truck, got a new hood, installed a pyro, turned it up a fair bit, installed g177s, removed 5th wheel, fixed fuel leaks, installed high flow air filter, changed filters, new LED lights all around and more. Drove it for over 200 miles runs good and very happy with it.

As many of us are aware, I decided to buy my 1990 M923A2 "Big Bertha" in February of this year. She was a little.... rough...

After recovery, recovering the seats and a bath, she was showing her true beautiful self....

For Father's day and my birthday, my sweet girlfriend got me an overhead console/stereo/backup camera (which I use as a rearview mirror while driving). The installation took about 6 hours and it included a 12vdc power port and dome light!

Shortly thereafter we decided to clean up and paint the old girl. We decided to use Sherwin Williams Weathershield exterior matte in Tricorn black. After 3 days of removing rust, prep and paint, and tinting the windows, Bertha was now "Murdered Out", as the kids say...

At that point, she looked like a completely different truck...

From there I started looking around for ways to "improve" her.... I started small;

A friend of mine gifted me a 5 gallon Jerry can, so I ordered a strap from our very own @Valence After my boy spent a LOT of time prepping it, sanding it and painting it, we got it mounted correctly

From there, I decided I needed convoy lights... after ordering a set from @jraney I got them and decided to install... I'm sure many of us remember the cluster that was me trying to figure out how to install them. After giving up on the military instructions, I decided to install them and run power from my console toggle switch instead of the convoluted method the Army uses...

After painting the hardware black, mounting and testing... I have convoy lights!

Shortly thereafter, my PCB took a dive, so I researched and bought the needed solenoids from O'reillys and rebuilt it.

At this time, I saw a member was moving and selling some convoy signs, so I reached out...

Then @m715mike pointed to a great deal from @Csm Davis for some new bows and cargo cover... after meeting him and picking up a SWEET NOS kit, Bertha had a new dress...

While I was at Jeff's house, he casually asked "Do you need an antenna?"

My answer? "Of COURSE I do!"

During all of this, I was scrolling FB marketplace and got in touch with a man who had some "Chemical decontamination units" and he was cool enough to gift me one.... while deciding where to mount it, I realized Bertha already had matching holes in her driver's fender for it!

So here she is, 10 months later.... I have a M105A2 that I'm also working on, so that may be another thread....

And now the fun stuff....

In May, we entered a car show benefitting autism research... Bertha managed to win "Best Original", "Military" division and "Top 25 Cars" as voted on by the entrants...

Several camping trips in Louisiana and Texas..

My M923a2 is a 2012 KS RSMS (Kansas Readiness Sustainment Maintenance Site) Rebuild Truck.

I have always wanted a 5 ton when they first started selling on GL. I was in high school when they were selling the majority of them. I graduated in 2013 and this 5 ton showed up at auction in May or June of that year with about 5 other just like it at Fort Riley. These M923a2's were left over from the rebuild program and never were issued. When I saw them on GL I wanted one of them. But I knew I probably didn't have enough money for one of them since they would go for more money than I had. Since I was only 18 at the time. Auction week came and and some of the trucks were close to $10,000 but this one was around $6500 since it was listed as a nonrunner. I thought its freshly rebuilt and what could be wrong? It was close to 4:00 when the trucks were selling and my dad and I placed a bid at $7500 and we WON! I was so excited. This was my 1st 5 ton! It is probably one of the nicest M923a2s out there. The military just spent $67,000 1 year before I bought this truck! It came with the packet of the Dyno sheets and all the new parts they replaced.

I love driving it and it gets stored inside.

Picture is from the day my dad and I picked it up at Fort Riley, Kansas.
