I'm still campaigning for my truck. I just looked at the polls and in the words of the fictional character Cam Brady from the movie ¨The Campaign¨, I'll tell you right now though, I'm so angry by seeing that, I wish I could go out and punch that baby again¨ You're welcome for your daily laugh, hopefully you've seen the movie and know that I mean the quote as a joke!!!

I did not want to resort to this, but the pressure is on and I need the votes. Here goes...

Fellow SSers, I do solemnly swear that a vote for me will improve your life (and that of your MV's) tenfold. How you may ask? Well I'm glad you did. Let me explain.
A vote for me in this month's contest will ensure the following:

1) The oil in your MV will never again get dirty and, thus, never again require changing
2) The faded paint on your MV will automatically rejuvenate
3) Your MV will start on the first crank every time regardless of outside temperatures (Note, this even applies if the batteries are not connected)
4) A 12v phone charger will magically appear in the cab of your MV
5) You will never again have to deal with stubborn navel lint
6) GL forklift operators will never again damage a piece of your equipment
7) Your HOA will allow you to park MVs in your driveway
8 ) Your wife will reinstate your GL buying privileges with no spending limits
9) Your tires will never wear or, if already worn, will re-grow their tread
10)
Seriously, are you still reading this post???
See folks, a vote for me will really improve your life tenfold. So don't wait. Vote now!!!

OK... Obviously you are a professional politician because you are just too good at this campaigning stuff. I'm gonna have to check the :rules: to see if you may need to be disqualified!

Thank you kind sir. I took the liberty of checking them for you. Not only am I well within the :rules: , but there was also a clause in them that said VOTE FOR ME!

To set the record straight, I'm not a professional politician. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

What the.... Too many nice trucks (and tank) to choose from. Next time keep it to 5 or 10 max. Congrats to everyone here! I would like to see a little bit of info about their rig under each entry.

OK, I have been asked "to what extent did I restore my rig?". To answer that question would require way too much space here, but is well documented in my rebuild thread, if anyone has the time and inclination to go through all the pages. As an example, however I will use my rear springs. When I removed the springs in preparation to install the rear shackle flip, I got to looking at the spring packs, and man were they rusty. So I decided to completely disassemble the packs and restore them back to new condition. After complete disassembly I sandblasted each leaf and both plates down to bare metal and quickly treated all surfaces of each leaf with phosphoric acid solution (Etch-Prep) to stop any rusting action. I then shot a coat of flat black Rustoleum on all surfaces and allowed this to cure fully for 24 hours. While the paint was curing I cleaned all the little round plastic spacers that snap into the holes in the inner springs and provide clearance. When everything was done, I reassembled the spring packs in order and then reinstalled them on the truck with new ORD grease-able bushings and new ORD u-bolts and nuts. Here's a few photos, which also show the rear disc brake conversion.

Looks like it's realistically down to 4 or 5 "contestants" with only 3 days to go after today.

So far only 106 folks have bothered voting....reminds me of our recent Mayoral Race....less than 4% of registered voters actually voted.aua

Bought the truck in 2001 (I THINK). I had painted it to represent the 64th Trans Co and ran it that way for a few years until 4 years ago when I had started chatting with the son who's dad died in Vietnam. When I found out that he was active army and not far from me, I thought hey how neat. But the day I heard of a Living History event that was going to be held there, I had to do something neat. To make a long story short, a few calls ended up with a replica of a gun truck that his dad did crew on a few times and a few Vietnam vets to attend, one driving from TEXAS to Ft Drum NY!! So "Ole 206" was born.
Its not often that you get to convoy behind a GT!! Another pic is of Bob demonstrating his technique of peeing off the running board while in a convoy. The CMH was awarded to Larry Dahl in 1971, his son was the one that I had talked too and was the reason why we all got together that weekend. I know I will never forget it.

I've also had the great pleasure to make this happen. The two pictures were 45 years apart to the month!! Richard, a 5th Maint Bn Vietnam Veteran. He worked heavy maintenance during the war and also went TDY driving tractors for the 359th Trans Co. I was able to get him behind the seat once again one November for a quick ride before he flew back to Virginia. If your thinking about coming to Vermont for the GMMVC rally, come and say hi as he is flying back up to put some more miles on "ole 206".

To provide another example to demonstrate the extent to which I restored my M1028, please consider my doors. At the point in time when I lost complete control and decided to restore/rebuild the truck with no regard to cost, I stripped the truck down to the cab on the frame. I removed the hood, doors, glass, dash, seats, and everything else that could be removed with the exception of the wiring harness. Because the truck was from Arizona, there was not a spec of rust to be found, even under the door sills. The cab interior was hand-sanded, primed, and painted with 383 CARC substitute. I stripped everything out of the doors and to my surprise, the interior of the doors looked like new. While I had everything apart, I decided to sound-proof the doors. I cut thin cardboard templates to fit inside the door panels perfectly, and then transferred the shapes to the DynaMat sheets, outlined them, and then cut them with scissors. It was kinda tricky to get the DynaMat pieces into the door interiors, so I left the adhesive backing on until I got them aligned perfectly in place, then peeled the backing off and pressed them firm. I then purchased new window operators, vent window assemblies, door locks, and key cylinders, and installed all this in each door. In summary, my doors are in new condition, and are sound-proofed to boot! here are a few photos -
