In March of 2013 I was asked to bring the V100 to participate in the ground breaking ceremonies of the Vietnam Memorial at the Texas Capitol in Austin.
My V itself is a Vietnam veteran, documented as serving with the 720th MP.

Our main function was to serve as escort for the 3417 dog tags of Texans who died in Vietnam, carried to the foundry in Bastrop in Quonsethut's tribute guntruck, to be sealed inside the memorial statue.
After the ceremonies at the Capitol we had a police escort from several agencies who cleared the highway for us on the 35 mile drive to the foundry, with a procession of veterans and dignitaries behind us.

After the ceremonies at the foundry we caused quite a stir at a local gas station as we fueled up the V100 and guntruck for the trip home.
All told, I put almost 200 miles on the V that day.

My younger Marine son Patrick was my turret man for this event. We lost him in January 2018.

Maybe we should make the MV of the Month - Year votes into a sticky at the top of the what's new list; that would ensure more votes for sure. Now, its getting snowed under too quick. I was not online for some time, just got a PM about the calendar 2022 and then remembered I had to vote. Does not show up anytime close in "what's new", and I had difficulties finding the thread. What works is searching for "month January 2023" or "year 2022" because all other search terms like "MV of the" are too short.

Anyway, nice trucks. I was doubting between M813rc and M715Mike, but M813rc got my vote. First because of the personal histories and stories (always important) but also to have some variation in the winners (are we going to make a "winner of the decade" as well?

Thank you!
Hambone, I tip my hat to you, sir. What a close run, came down to just one vote. Your vehicle is absolutely beautiful.
I am honoured to have been in such great company as the other exemplary vehicles this year. Not a slouch among them. Well done to all.

It's probably worth a lot now, but I was fortunate to have started with some very affordable parts, and having the spare time to put everything together over three and a half years. I couldn't even dream of buying a finished one!
And it is my dream vehicle, so I'll never sell it, my kids will inherit it when I go. ;)

Cheers

Congratulations, Rory!

A photo-finish right down to the wire.

In my heart, there are no losers in the MV world. Every one of them has its individual merit.
Each that is saved from the scrap heap is a winner in that regards for sure.
We save as many as we can. Right?

Congrats to ALL who made it through 2022!

Carry on.
