In March of 2013 I was asked to bring the V100 to participate in the ground breaking ceremonies of the Vietnam Memorial at the Texas Capitol in Austin.
My V itself is a Vietnam veteran, documented as serving with the 720th MP.
Our main function was to serve as escort for the 3417 dog tags of Texans who died in Vietnam, carried to the foundry in Bastrop in Quonsethut's tribute guntruck, to be sealed inside the memorial statue.
After the ceremonies at the Capitol we had a police escort from several agencies who cleared the highway for us on the 35 mile drive to the foundry, with a procession of veterans and dignitaries behind us.
After the ceremonies at the foundry we caused quite a stir at a local gas station as we fueled up the V100 and guntruck for the trip home.
All told, I put almost 200 miles on the V that day.
My younger Marine son Patrick was my turret man for this event. We lost him in January 2018.
