Awhile ago I posted about my steering box getting tight after I turned full lock to the left. Fast forward a few months. I left my Deuce with a friend at his shop to baby sit her for me while I am deployed overseas. Now the steering will not turn to the left at all. So the long and the short of it is I need a new steering box. I am going to switch to a power steering setup sometime in the future but it's hard to do when I'm not there. Does anyone have a stock steering box laying around so I don't have to pay the prices from one of the parts houses? Please PM me if you do. Thanks.

Hey Shannon,

Just for grins, see if your steering box has any lube in it. Mine was starting to stick and when I opened the top, it was bone dry. 2 qts of gear oil later, with a little marvel mystery oil, and my steering was happy again. Might be worth a try?

That was the first thing Jesse checked for me. It was just a bit low. He topped it off and dove it a couple days that way. After those couple days it bound up turning to the left and now will only turn right. I unfortuantly am on the other side of the world and can't mess with it right now. So the simple solution is to just get a box and send it to him to replace.

It's not just a box, it's the whole column too. It comes out through the bottom. Kind of a big job.

sounds like the recirculating bearings have taken a dump ...its easier to feel it fail in a small vehicle.... when the box is opened up look for the silver slupee.... if you still have a few good bearings left( good as in whole not craked) measure them, replace but also look for other damage- induced by the silver slurpee......

There is not a lot to rebuilding the steering gear. Some bearings, some bushings are usually enough to fix any problem.

Getting the box out requires lifting the front of the engine and inch or so, however. Disassemble the entire box, steering column in the truck and remove.
