Steering system hot even at idle.

I never really paid any attention before, wish I had...
But with the GEP turbo conversion of course I am checking everything and noticed the PS system gets pretty dang hot even after only 15-20 minuets of idling, I read 170 degrees at the input to the cooler, is this normal???

I touched the Cadillac valve one time and I will never touch it again. I couldn’t believe how how it was. Not much help but that’s all I got

I've worked on other types of hydraulic systems. Getting hot is pretty normal. That's what the cooler's job is anyway, to reduce the hear generated by the pump and moving fluid under pressure.

Most hydraulic systems use a large reservoir to allow the oil time to cool before going back through the system. We don't have the luxury of gallons of hydraulic fluid in a big reservoir to act as a heat sink, so we have the cooler.

I don't know what temp it's supposed to run at, but 170 doesn't sound bad to me.

I have a thread on the HMMWV mod forum.
Was pretty straight forward, no big issues, exhaust bolted right up, intake plumbed up no problem, did the body panel mod and also did the 1/2 body lift.
a few electrical mods for the oil pressure, temp and crank sensor but was surprised at how easy it was as far as modifications go.
