Steering wheel deterioration?

Hey guys,

One other thing that I noticed about my steering wheel (besides it being dirty as heck and cracked on all three spokes) was that it made my hands (or anything else that it touched) black as night. It seems that the material is basically disintegrating.

I recall reading somewhere that the steering wheels for the Deuce are made from some organic material, so maybe this disintegration makes some sense.

Has anyone else had this problem? :?: Hey, I don't mind getting a little dirty - but it kinda sucks driving someplace and you get out and your hands and clothes are filthy black just from normal driving.

You know - my hands always end up pretty filthy after a drive too but I never figured it was the wheel.

Interested on what others have to say.

You can sand and paint the steering wheel. You can even use bondo to fill in cracks. Spend some time on it and it will look like new.
