Steering wheel fix

I'm sure I'm not the only one here who has ever had their steering wheel start falling apart. I'm guessing the LA heat has made the outer covering brittle and now pieces of it are falling off. Has anyone done a repair to their steering wheel as opposed to paying $150+ for a new one? I'm sure there's some sort of coating or something that can be used. I've thought about wrapping it in something like the leather wrap that goes around a baseball bat.

There is a thread on here somewhere about fixing the steering wheel with epoxy. Someone else used bondo, with less satisfactory results.

Maybe one of the folks who are good at searching the site (I'm not, it seems) can find it?

Cheers

I tried but I think you'll find sooner or later, a new SW is way to go. My just fell apart over the course of a year. Odd. I'm saving egg money to buy a new one.
