Yes, jacking it up allows you to rotate the tire / hub to take pressure off the splines to rotate slightly and align them.

I didn't jack up the axle for my installation. When I took the last bolt out of the original axle shaft flange, the truck lurched very slightly, indicating the rear axles were binding a little. For installation, just have the new hub set to "FREE" and you can rotate things to fit.
