Strange noise on m35a2

greetings everyone,

I went out to start the deuce this morning and when I flipped the battery switch, I heard a loud humming noise. I immediately shut off the battery switch and waited a few mins and tried it again. Same thing happened. I have a feeling it’s either the starter solenoid locking up or the fuel pump burning up but I am not sure. Anyone ever had this experience? Where should I start to trouble shoot?

Ps it ran fine yesterday for a 4 hour ride no problems and no noise

I would have someone else turn the master on momentarily while you diagnose where the noise is coming from. That way, your helper can shut the master off immediately if needed before significant damage.

Look in the tank and make sure it has fuel, then using 'soldier B' to flip the switch on, stand by the tank and see if that is where the noise is from. If not, try other places.

I take it your low air warning buzzer is completely, totally, disconnected, and therefore you can hear said humming?

If its not the low air buzzer, try disconnecting the tank pump wire and try it again. Doubtful on the solenoid as it should just "click" real loud when you hit the start button or key, which ever you have.

Also, power converters/reducers (i.e. 24v-12v) can buzz some... if'n you have one.

Could it be that after driving off road for a while, I knocked the low air buzzer into working? I’ve never heard this noise before but it most definitely could be that low air alarm if it hums loudly. I was alarmed because it sounds like when a fan motor or other small motor is shorting out.

it def has fuel, just filled the tank.

im out in the woods today but when I get home I’ll have someone help me. Thanks for the suggestions fellas, I’ll report back.

Those damn buzzers can wake the dead!

One guy in our group moved to the rear of his truck, used a turn signal flasher on it, and used it for a back-up alarm.

Could be. I just turned the switch on. Could hear fuel pump activated, then 5 seconds later intermittent hum sound. Could be low air alarm that started to work. We took a extremely bumpy off-road ride through the picayune where I work and then a day later this sound started. Maybe I am bounce-fixing my deuce

Ive have never heard this sound before. Sounds like a transformer humming on a power line

Unplug the wire on the low air alarm and see if the noise stops. Or, build or charge with air pressure and see if it stops.

yep, it was the alarm. I’m new to the deuce and didn’t even realize it had a low air alarm. Mine sounds pretty rough but I must have knocked it into working driving around the trails. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!

I’d recommend fixing / replacing the one you have. It should be reliable, loud and get your attention.

I’ve had a sudden loss of air pressure while driving. The buzzer came on and alerted me to the fact that something was wrong.

I agree as annoying as it is you definitely want it to work when you need it.

Is it worth trying to take it apart and mess with it, or better to just purchase a new/working unit?
