Yeah Dave, at least three of us would come over from Dayton to help wrench or wash and wax the armor. :)

JW, Gimp and myself for sure.
Larry, Curly and Mo would be whacking each other in the back of the head and poking each others eyes out trying to get the front hatch.

Pulled the cut breech ring off the rear deck last night, and lifted and set the high intensity spotlight and put her back in place!

Mk48/15a1 earns her keep!

Incredible!!! I was thinking of my custom paperwork problem when I import my 2 M113 from Luxemburgh, a real joke compare to your shipping problem...At least the final point is....It's in your driveway NOW! :)

Actually had a warm day a week or so back and Dave power washed the crap off the outside. We vacuumed the water and remaining ice out of the inside too. Looks like a completely different vehicle. It actually has some color now that isn't gray. Here are a couple pics of snow and ice which are probably one reason the thing was overweight when the first company finally reweighed. It doesn't seem like a lot from the pics but consider the area of a 22 foot long 12 foot wide tank with 6 inch deep snow and ice on it. ( in it too). It did run well and sounds pretty burly. Completely different sound and feel compared to the russian stuff. Sounds a little like the Mk48 with the 8V92TA....must be a 2 stroke thing. Much easier to drive from the operating perspective.....little tougher from the seeing what you're going to hit perspective. This baby is big. It is a lot quieter inside than any of the russian stuff which may have something to do with the fact that it has a muffler and exhausts out the back. The T34 exhausts out the back but the rest go out the side and what the heck is a muffler?

Well after buying a Chieftain last Spring in the UK, having it demilled to US standards and repainted (for some reason a 7 month process), having her ship from Liverpool to arrive in Baltimore (missing the ship 2x), then the REAL fun began...

She landed Jan. 2, and was cleared by Customs Jan. 4. The transport company hired to move her had their heavy trailer stuck in Wisconsin... so she sat on the dock till Jan. 14.

Finally picked up Jan. 14, they decided they could not start the trip till Jan. 17, as they had to get the permits lined up as well as escorts.

Unfortunately at 62 tons and almost 12 ft. wide, she needed escorts all the way.

Started out the 17th, made it to the Maryland / PA border... pulled over and found the "permits were not in order" so she was pulled off the road where she sat for two weeks "awaiting another permit".

Finally back under way Feb. 3... She got in the middle of one of the worst snow and ice storms since 1978. In Ohio the Jeep (helper axles) air lines froze locking the axles up. They hit the side of the road, and drug the Jeep to the weigh station. Asking the weigh station staff if they could remove the jeep to unfreeze the lines (answer was yes) they did so, only to have a State Patrolman pull in and immediately cite them, and pull their permit. Back to the drawing board.

On Feb. 5 they finally got new permits, and were told they had to go back across the scales... starting to back up they were immediately warned / threatened to not do so, they had to drive down and go down, make a hard left, and go across. As they did so on ice, the tank pushed the trailer forward, and with the truck having no traction, immediately jackknifed the rig. SO, Highway Dept called to put salt on road, at -5 degrees.

Two days waiting for ice to melt... finally moving in the 10th... back across the scales only to find Ohio doesn't like their axle weights... permit pulled.

They call for another trailer out of Baltimore to drive out and MOVE my tank from one trailer to another. Company escort driver has to return to Baltimore for his medicine. Everything sits... finally weather moves in on East coast all of that is cancelled.

On the 11th company calls it quits... and calls a company out of Cleveland to come get it and bring it the rest of the way. They get there the 11th, trans-load the tank on the 12th, and she finally shows on the 13th, exactly 20 minutes before I was scheduled to speak at a Board of Works meeting.

So the tank arrives, and the entire rig is 115 feet long. It will NOT turn into the road to my house. SO my friends (while I'm at the meeting) have to unload her while it sits on a State Highway... and even reload the Jeep... always a tense time!

Tank is off loaded and she's covered in snow and ice. Guess what? They had left the hatches open and the inside full of snow... "hatches were corroded open we couldn't help it"... one of my best friends in the world who helps me with the armor hops up, pulls the hatch back and releases the catch, hatches close.

Well at least she's here... in all her beauty! Just remember this when you buy your tanks!

Pics Attached... best of all I get to change my Steel Soldiers signature to Chieftain received!

Tank On!

Well various avenues...

the T-55AM2 and the BPzV was purchased from Select Military Vehicles in the UK. They come out of Peter Boyes collection... I flew to see them.
the T-54 was bought through a contact out of the UK from a man who flew to CZ to pick one out after the wall fell. Only saw pics.
the BMP-1 was bought from a collector in the states
the T-34/85 was bought from a collector in the states
the T-72M1 was bought from STV, I flew to Prague to see one, but it was not an M1, but I got to know STV. They later located an M1 and I bought unseen pics only.
the T-62 came out of Jacques Littlefields collection, I flew out to see it before finalizing the sale.
the Chieftain came from a collector in the UK. Only saw in pics.

So really a variety of ways... mostly just getting to know people and making contacts, and asking questions! The most important things is being ready to drop everything to get a piece if it is available!

As a warning, I've also been taken. RussianMilitaryTrucks took me for almost 50k... he's a UK citizen - Richard Moore. Another collector took me for $5k on a deposit, as well as a Pole for about $2k on spare parts.

Just know who you are dealing with, and ALWAYS a contract.
IF ONLY you had read my previous posts about MOOR TROUBLE! future intending buyers can PM me any time for RELIABLE and HONEST contacts.

So very sorry to hear of you bieng exploited like that . My recent re-post about warnings must have been missed. Did you not have any recourse or recovery from that person at all?

Tahlequah, Ok.
We'll take you up on that. We have to put new track on the 54, and take the 54s track and put it on the 62. We will need help!
AugDog1964 (DAVE)

Man, I have to know.. WHAT in the name of GOD... DO YOU DO for a livin'?
I ask because I know I'm in the wrong line of work... when:

1. You have such disposable income that you can afford, to..
A.) Import Soviet and British Armor.
B.) Fly at a moments notice to CZ to inspect vehicles.
C.) Own the property to run around on IN said vehicles..
D.) Afford to fuel said vehicles
E.) Afford Parts for said vehicles
F.) Burden local law enforcement with your collection, and intimidate them as seen fit for harassing you.

2. Have the free time to mess around with such things of a mechanical nature.
3. Have the technical support equipment to mess around with said mechanical devices.
4. Have the IRS, or DHS not sniffing your waste bin, or the septic tank outside your home..(even with proper paper work)

And finally, are you looking to hire a full time mechanic? Cause I can turn a wrench like the best of them.. and I know how to navigate a TM.. LOL
