Hello All !
I have not owned a Military truck since the early 80's.
That's when i sold my 42' Dodge CarryAll.
Yes, i regret it !
I need your combined help here ?
I'm very interested in a M1078 or similar truck.
I need pros & cons.
I need to Learn the in's & out's ?
I can't find much info. & the prices i see are wack, from 3500 to 45000 !
With all the DRMO Auctions out there.
What's the "Best Options" ?
My plans are to build a 4x4 RV.
Plans call for a dependable 4x4 drivetrain & cab, then a transplanted rv box.
Class C type transplant. Fully equiped.
Has anybody experienced that type of build.
Not for rock crawling.
Just the fire / back roads & beach camping.
I have Baja trips in my future !
Any ideas , Please share.?

Welcome to the site from Charleston and Jones in Las Vegas!

Opps! Wait a minute----- That WAS my location up to about 50 years ago.

Now it's welcome to the site from Salmon River Country!!

The 1078 is way too modern for me but you will find a wealth of info here. Lots experienced folks on here to help you out.

Jim

Maybe look at differences between that 42 truck
A real jeep is only about 12000 now
and the "new" trucks are full of electronics
How about a nice 5 ton or M35A2C?
HMMWV are to your taste now?

Thank's everyone, for the warm welcome.
So, who is the S&S M1078 guru here ?
What year is best ?
What options work best on this model ?
What mod's are worth the time,
motor, gearing, suspension, ?
How about part's ?
Where can i find shop / service manuals ?
I really appreciate your time & experience with these trucks !

Hey everyone I’m new to the site and to the MV world. I am in the process of purchasing my first deuce from Kublos Surplusi in PA. I’m sure I’ll have a million questions when i get one but for now my first question is about shifting. It is my understanding that you would keep the transfer case in high and shift normally through the gears 1-5. The low range would be used in hauling and or steep inclines. I also have heard of people split shifting im just curious of the best way to go about driving one unloaded and loaded. Thanks guys sorry for being a noob.

Welcome. Start your own thread introducing yourself and your truck.

As to not knowing how to shift the truck i would HIGHLY recommend reading the tm's before even touching that truck. These are big heavy and dangerous if operated by someone who doesnt know what they are doing.

But yes you will almost never touch the low range unless doing some low speed grunt work. Make sure you know and get comfortable with the shift pattern. I promise it wont be what your used to in the family car...

Welcome aboard! I won't be around Sin City for much longer, so we probably won't get to meet (I'm too busy trying to escape this place).

Fellow member NV555 owns an LMTV (I believe); you shouldn't have a problem with the Las Vegas area DMVs, as long as you are listed on the SF97 or buy from private party (SF97s are NOT transferable in Nevada; if you buy from private party make sure that they have a title in their name or else don't buy it).

I encourage you to join the Southern Nevada Military Vehicles Association...they are a great resource and a wealth of knowledge, as well as keeping busy with many activities, parades, shows, etc...
