The right to travel

I Understand completely if this post gets removed, it's on the fringe of the TOU, but this has to be said. It seems like a lot of us are fighting to get these vehicles titled, insured, and down the road, and why? What ever happened to the constitutional right to travel uninhibited and unencumbered? If the DMV says, "Sorry, your truck doesn't meet such and such requirement for tags, or a plate, so no travel for you!" That's just the end of it, and everyone shrugs it off like nothing, but it's not. It's a violation of that right. Am I alone in this feeling?

and the second photo is rather insulting if you ask me, I have the same problem with banning a 19 years old rustfree museum-worthy sedan import meanwhile the same office literally turns 100% blind eyes to a domestic 7 years old suv with extreme bottom rusts and literally no working lights at all..like uhhmmm what the hell????

See we have (or are supposed to have) a constitutional amendment to protect us from such things in the U.S. I read here recently that M998s are restricted to off-road use only, because they don't meet highway safety standards or epa highway regulations, but in my state you can get a permit to operate off road vehicles on road........ So you can't until you pay to can.............hmmmmmmm.......... 🤔

Some of the very owners of “military type vehicles or equipment “ are their own
worst enemy (and ours). When we read a post that says “it’s dangerous to drive
that over 50mph (or 60,70 or whatever). For some reason people think that if
its on the internet it comes from a expert?
Or “I don’t drive on major highways because it’s dangerous“
most military vehicles (and I say MOST, not all) if there maintaned reasonably
could be safely driven on most roads. (Again I say MOST)
i would be the first to say it’s not a smart idea to drive your five ton or hemmet
on the “going to the sun road” on the east side of Glacier national park For example.
But now let’s get to the root of the problem.
Maintance, some people don’t know a hammer from a screwdriver. And yet they work on it (or don’t) and then expect it to drive like a ford escort or toyota Corolla.
Drivers, how many people who in their 40s,50s, etc don’t know the basic rules of the road? How many cant drive a compact car but are driving a larger, heavier peace
of equipment. And some know they are a hazard (or scared) and assume everyone else is has bad as they are. And then they post how dangerous it is.
I (we) have a motor home, and we get on a rv camping website and shake our heads at some people who say they drove this or that particular road and that it’s death highway and this particular state should shut it down. And then we find out that their rv is smaller than ours. And some of these roads, highways are our favorites of ours and we have both drove them many times.
And then let’s take the view that yes these military vehicles, they’re very dangerous and should be banned from the roads and anyone who drives them should be locked up forever.
So we have thousands if not tens of thousands of people who decide, purchase,
design, build and lead this country who don’t think nothing of putting our young
men and women behind the wheel and as passengers in this very equipment. do they not think it’s safe?
Can anyone explain that to me because I am at a total loss on that one.
Again I apologize for the rambling.
Bottom line is that if you don’t feel safe, then don’t drive it, if you don’t have a
Hmmwv, hemmet, five ton, abrams tank, etc. don’t tell people who do and are
Maybe more experienced than you how to drive it.
It’s like reading Amazon reviews, how many people start out “ I don’t have one but”
Again my apologies for the length of this, it’s like the gun debate, if you don’t own one, never been around one, never shot one, never been affected by gun violence.
Why do you feel the need to blab?

It comes down to some groups of people despise the military and police for that matter and certainly don't want to see these "weapons of war" on the streets in the hands of civilians.
I have come across this attitude several times within the last 25 years , more-so within the last 10 of them.. I have even witnessed poorly-funded towns / municipalites be pressured out of their existing military trucks & equipment, and many are highly-pressured by their Boards or powerful members of the public NOT to obtain such trucks and equipment regardless whether its free or very affordable , because they "don't want to look at "weapons of war"

Exactly! Where I am literally anyone regardless of license type can jump in a class A pusher with air brakes and enough power to pull a hotel behind it and drive it anywhere. 5 ton pickup? Class B CDL. M36? Class A CDL. M998 hmmvw? Not road legal. 40ft Monaco with 600hp, tow package, quad slide outs and a loaded tandem axle car hauler? Operators license....... Then I read and hear (on other sites) guys titling and insuring them as RVs and using them for not camping, and it makes my blood boil, because lying to the dmv is only going to cause more restrictions, whereas pointing out where they are in violation of constitutional law would fix the problem. I apologize too, I could rant about subjects like this for hours..... Open to ideas for a solution.

Well, I'm late to this topic, but when I read "right to travel" I thought about a situation a few years ago (during "COVID") when my KY governor "ordered" residents to stay at home. That is limiting travel if my calculations are accurate.

And regarding the average people driving huge diesel RVs.....has anyone driven/ridden in a Tesla yet? They accelerate quicker than many local drag race cars. It's interesting how the general public can now buy and operate such vehicles.

@Ashley P its an annoying "ego in capitalism" sort of problem (as I have no clue how else to word it right now sorry! heh) in one certain specific way: look at it re an older hatchback car is a good economy car as it only had a 90hp gas engine that still could get up to 60mph in a fairly short time with only partial gas pedal travel meanwhile now if you want a new hatchback car its too literally simply a sport car with the trunk chopped off etc as the most base engine you can get in it is 270hp such that a little nudge of the gas pedal would get you to a reckless 80mph too easily (relatively speaking) .. anyway I'm sorry I had to mention this but I hope it doesn't turn into a long offtopic flame
