I was driving home from hunting when it looked like a meteor landed in the bed of my truck, sparks galore. I stopped and could find nothing wrong.

Down the road it happened again and I found the cap had wrapped around my auxiliary plug touching both the positive and negative cables and fusing the chain to the cables.

I also followed the cables and found they are connected to my 24 volt junction bar, but not for long.

If unnoticed, it could have made out to be an interesting auto insurance claim and/or call to the local fire department. Glad you caught it. I guess my 1008 never had anything like that.

I need that cable if you don't want it.
If I get it out in good condition you can have it for shipping price. I will let you know. I was gone all day today, maybe tomorrow. It looks like an easy removal, except I don't know how it is attached underneath the truck.

We all know from reading our TMs, that is the radio power wire kit that makes your M1008 an M1008A1.

:D I think I will go read the TM so I have a good idea what to do before changing my truck back to a M1008. The sparks were so big I am surprised someone didn't call homeland security.

I think it runs to the positive and negative bar by the battery!!
From what I can tell in the TM's that is correct and it has about 5 clamps holding it in place. I don't know if I can get to them easily, but I am going outside to put some liquid electrical tape on the exposed part and take a look.

EDIT- I saw where it is connected to the +/- junction bars and there are 3 clamps underneath, all easy to get too. I put some liquid electrical tape on the exposed part for now.

...so I was driving through a small town in Montana, population 305, when the biggest sparks I have seen in a long time start shooting out of the back of my Army truck. I know it was seen by the town's people. They probably called out the militia thinking there was some secret government experiment going on or something.

My buddy helped me on a recovery back from Arkansas. About 1/2 way home he threw a cigarette out the window. It flew in the back of the truck and landed on an almost empty 5 quart plastic oil jug. A few minutes later he noticed some sparks floating through the back window. He looks back and all he saw was orange. I thought he was going to have to change his shorts when I finally got back to him to see why he stopped. Melted part of his shoe trying to put it out. rofl

I need a few days to get this done. Our son is in college and he started having seizures. The doctor thinks epilepsy. We are in a panic right now trying to get the right help. Say a prayer if you will, we need them.

Family is way more important than playing with army trucks. I pray that your son's medical problems are minor and that he makes a full recovery. Best of luck to you.

He should be fine, once he gets the right meds and takes them faithfully.
The key is to make sure you impress on him the importance of taking them
faithfully and on time.
