Since it has been cooling off when I first start the truck for the day there is only a thud. Then I let off and push it again and it fires right up. Any ideas why it just started doing this? I tried to find threads on this and couldn't find any.

Thanks, I will take a look at it and see if it looks the same. Was yours making that thud noise too, and if so did it fix it? From the pictures it looks like its on the passenger side next to the exhaust?

Passenger side, take the air cleaner off, easy to see.

Yes and no on the thud, seemed to be - turn over then second go thud etc....think it was f'ing up the contacts on the stater button, I have ordered a new one and will add Bjorn's diode fix as well.

A thud would tell me its gonna be a solenoid of some sort...either the starter relay one on the right side of the motor behind the air cleaner or the solenoid on the starter itself. 2cents

Batteries are low, starter solenoid doesn't like that. Second go around, it heated up some and made a connection. Charge the batts, clean the connections and you should be good to go. I've got lots of experience in the National Guard with trucks that have sat a while with low batteries, mostly Deuces till they sold all of ours.
