Attention!

We are very excited to announce,

The 2017 THUNDER OVER MICHIGAN Air Show will be featuring The Worlds Largest World War II Paratrooper Drop!

The date for Thunder Over Michigan 2017 is September 2-4. The aircraft theme being featured this year is the workhorse of the US Army Air Corps during WWII, the famous C-47 Skytrain. Our battle theme will be one for the books! In support of our aircraft theme, the battles will be WWII, ETO and will feature the largest WWII airborne drop ever to be conducted in conjunction with a WWII reenactment battle! We are aiming to recreate Operation Varsity, the combined Allied airborne drop across the Rhine River and into Germany. Operation Varsity holds the distinction of being the largest airborne drop of WWII.

As with the past two years, setup is available as early as Thursday the 1st at 2:00pm. Participant check-in will be available 8am-4:30pm Friday & Saturday, and 8am-1pm on Sunday. The event is open to the public Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Sept 2-4.

We again plan to hold a weapons demo in the encampment area. It has consistently been a big hit with spectators. We will again need some volunteers that want to show off their weapons and pop off a few rounds.

**Specific information regarding the battles, convoy, town battle, etc. will be updated in the near future. Expect a call for military vehicle support as paratrooper/reenactor transport in and out of the battles.

You can also check out the show's facebook page at: facebook.com/groups/ThunderOverMichiganBattles

For those of you unfamiliar with the show, Thunder Over Michigan is an annual airshow put on by the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It incorporates a spectacular array of WWII-Present aircraft and also a series of large battle reenactments. The reenacting portion, in addition to the battles, includes an encampment for period displays, military vehicles, etc.

The event is free of charge for historical reenactors and military vehicle owners/crew. There is camping on site in an encampment area during the event. Campfires will be allowed. Any tents used should be military style. If not, they will have to be stowed and out of sight during show hours. Travel trailers or RV's will not be allowed into our encampment/display area, but arrangements can be made with the Wayne County Fairgrounds located 1/4 mile from the airport.

Lunch from the WWII field kitchen will be provided for registered participants on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Remember to bring your own mess kit, silverware, and canteen cup!

The encampment display area is open to all eras of 20th century military vehicles and historical reenactors. Displays are encouraged.

The Military Vehicle Collectors Club of Michigan (MVCCMI), a local MVPA affiliate, will again be providing support with the military vehicle portion of the show.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please feel free to post here or to PM me.

We will be having our usual Friday evening convoy and street battle in Downtown Belleville. Also a Pass-In-Review each morning out in front of the crowd is scheduled. It's a great opportunity to show off your vehicle and get some of the spotlight. Lastly, we have a need for vehicles to deliver and retrieve reenactors from the battlefield. Remember, this is going to be the largest WWII airborne drop you will ever see! Helping out in this transport role will give you an unbelievable view of the battle and the paratroopers being deployed!
