Tire Chain Joint Rubbing Leaf Spring

I've got a set of dually tire chains measuring 3' across and trimmed to fit my 9x20 NDT's lengthwise. The connector link is rubbing the leaf spring. I only have 1.5" between the sidewall of the tires and the springs. The only other way to make this work is leave the inside chain looser so it rides up higher on the sidewall toward the tread. I know lots of you run chains and wonder if this is a problem with any other deuces out there. Thanks.
