tire size for m1028 w/ duel wheels

hey , i am the new proud owner of a 1987 m 1028a3 w/ the duel wheels and im trying to figure out how big of a tire i can put on my truck it has 16" rims and has stock supension if anyone can help me out i owe ya one .

With spacers I'm sure you can go big. I have a 3" spacer on my 2007 and I have 285/R16s. My neighbor has 6" spacers, which I think is crazy, but he has huge tires. I'm sure some will tell you spacers are unsafe, but I have had them on several vehicles and had no problems. Can't stand empty wheel wells.

thanks man sure appreciate it , but its a 1987 w/ the square fenders , lord knows i hate these little bitty tires on here now

Most GM civilian dually pickups after 1981 were fitted with 235/85-16 tires. You can run 255/85-16's too. In the 70's I ran 750-16 and L78-16 on my duallies. No spacers necessary.

My 1986 M1028a2 is currently wearing 235/85R/16's.

Firestone Transforce AT's.

They ride really well, fill the wheel wells an look pretty nice. No spacers.

STOCK tires on 73-87 duallys were 7:50X16s or LT215/85R16s. LT225/85R16s also. LT235/85R16s came on SRW 1 tons. My 83 K30 dually has the old stock 7:50x16s only because they came with the truck and they're in good shape. If you plan on hauling a lot of weight with wider tires and no spacers you risk the tires rubbing, picking up rocks in between, etc.

Stock tires on 73-81 duallies were non-radial tubeless tires on 16.5 rims. I used to order the optional 7.50-16 D tube type on my trucks. GM went to radials in 82 on these models. My radial equipped duallies came with the optional 235/85-16 E tires.

Thanks for all the info guys it helps a lot , does anyone know if I can fit 265 /75 on there with spacers in the rear ? It wouild be nice cuz I gt a whole bunch of this size layin around ?
