What is the widest tire you can put on the stock deuce wheels? Is 15.5" wide and 46" tall too much tire?

Added question: What is the center to center dimension for the two rear axles?

BFR, are you saying that the Deuce's standard wheel is approved for running 12.00x20 tires and stamped so? I thought that 11.00x20 were the biggest on the stock wheel. Lets see 44" tall......

You'd play heck compressing that 15.5 XL down enough to get the ring on, then the center would be all crowned up.
the center does not look like it crowns up. I have not measured it, but looking at it and comparing it to my 1600s on hemmt rims it looks the same

RE: Re: RE: Tire size question

Rizzo, the 1600's are designed for a 10" wide wheel, as are the 15.50 XL's or 395/85 XML's. I believe the 14.50R20 XL's are to be on 11" wheels. So how wide are your wheels?

RE: Re: RE: Tire size question

I had to check my wheels. My stock welded wheels were marked: Goodyear 7.5-20 Military Std. Max Tire 1200
Has anyone run 12.00r20 on their deuce with stock wheels?

stock 7.5-8 inches

found another pic.

next time I drive in the road I will get a pic of the contact patch. I would guess it would be bigger than a 900-20

stock rims and tires

I have had 12.5 XLs on stock rims for about a year and a half with no problems. I had them mounted at a truck tire shop with radial tubes. The tire guy said they fit fine.

RE: stock rims and tires

I tried to mount my 15.5's on the stock rim without something to compress the tire. Cut the tube and had to really beat the rim. I made wider rims and they mount with ease. I think if you ran 15.5's or 395's on stock rim like Rizzo they would do ok if the air is kept down.
16.00's mount on 10" rims. The tire is 6" wider than the rim. the 15.5's or 395's on stock deuce rim would be about the same.

M35A3 tire choices

I am finding that the 14.5x20 tires for my M35A3 are soooo expensive. Will the 395/85 R20 tires work? I am sure they will fit, and the advantage would be cost. What kinds of problems may arise if I use them? Road stability, weight capacity, etc.

You will be fine running 395's. You will get better top speed also. I'm about to put 395 xml's on a3 wheels on my a2.
