Was one of the test pilots. His book is a great read for any aviation type. He mentions that one of the biggest problems was visiting brass wanting to fly the XP-59. Bell didn't want anybody esle flying it but, they needed to keep the brass happy. So, they cut a hole in the nose and would strap people into an open cockpit in the front and fly down a straight stretch of road to let the power poles give the visitor a good sense of speed.
