Torque Converter Help

Well, I've done a lot of searching around here, and haven't been able to find out what kind of actual parts/specs to look for in a replacement torque converter. From what I can see, the original parts for the 6.2/TH400 are the 3 bolt GM3, and the 6 bolt GM6. NAPA sells rebuilts from Pro-King Products, but doesn't list the stall speeds. Anyone know the stock stall speed for the CUCV converter? All I've found is that it's "lower than a gas converter." There's a rebuilt GM6 on eBay with a 1300-1500 stall speed, that sounds lower than the gas ones to me, which seem to be about 2200. I also found references to the GM6-HD (flanged hub and bearing) and GM6R-HD (regular hub and bearing), supposedly heavier duty versions of the GM6 I take it. Anyone here familiar with this stuff? It seems the HD ones have a 1700-1900 stall speed in general, but I'm not sure about both of them, or if that depends on other factors. I may want to put a turbo on this at some point down the line, if that would change things. Looks like it wouldn't affect where peak torque is hit, just what the torque is, so I imagine the stall speed should be the same. Any info appreciated, maybe some part numbers could be added to the Wiki :)

In my opinion the 6.2 would be most happy with the 1700 - 1900 gm6 hd as it makes it s peak torque at about 2000 rpm Many factors come into play with the stall - weight, gear ratio and others so the stall of 1900 will be closer to the peak rpm of the 6.2 the turbo will not change the stall like you said just the amount of torque :beer:

Hi, back to this again. Trying to make a decision on what I'd want to get. Does anyone know which converter the 1009 has stock? I still couldn't find if this was a GM3 or a GM6, and I fear this is an area where the civvy version isn't going to match.

Yeah, but nothing there seems to translate to an actual GM part. If I were filling out a military RFQ, that would be helpful, but I'm just trying to get it from NAPA or something...

I'm not trying to find someone who _has_ a CUCV torque converter, I'm trying to find out what that torque converter is. All the Googling I did didn't lead me to that information yet, like I said, the best I got was the link in the first post had what looked like several possibilities. I mean, I suppose I could call Front Line and ask them, but I thought someone here might know and save me a phone call to a place of business. Although $95 doesn't sound like too bad a price, depending on its specs, thanks for the link. That still leaves me not knowing what a 'TORQUE CONVERTER CUCV' translates to at a parts store.

I went with a Dynamic RV/Towing converter and have been really happy with it. The stall is between 1200 and 1800. It cost me about $150 and has been great.

When I googled for that number, I found a few places listing the ability to make an RFQ like I said. Even then, since it's sold out, and doesn't tell me anything about the part, that site still isn't really telling me much I want to know. Maybe if I keep digging and digging I might eventually find something useful, but nothing was coming up readily so I just thought I'd bounce it here. That number might help at a parts store though, so it may come in handy, but I'd think there'd be a cross-reference somewhere after a bit of googling that would help me find some equivalent part numbers.
