tossing around a different idea for 12 volts, this been tried before?

considering a deep cycle maybe a agm or gel battery and to charge it a simple one wire alternator running off a pinion flange or the jackshaft between the t-case and tranny, that would allow stationary charging if required, this obviously is not perfect but could be amusing and if running off the jackshaft hidden under the truck.
thinking about alternatives to an engine mounted unit as im going to air condition the truck so no place for a second alternator under the hood

Battery plus a 24 to 12 volt converter..select a converter with a voltage output of 14.2 and it will be perfect. Powerstream makes converters with adjustable output.
