A tour of Sanders Aeronautics and Sanders Smoke Technologies near Ione, CA by vintage military vehicle fans is part of the activities at a large military vehicle event in April 2025. Sanders was the builder of the famous Unlimited Class race plane, the Hawker Sea Fury called Dreadnaught, in the early 1980s. It won the Unlimited Class at the Reno Air Races several times and is always a contender. They are Sea Fury experts and typically bring several to Reno, which is moving for good in 2025 to Roswell, NM. Besides the warbird restoration and race prep shop, Sanders manufactures self-contained smoke generators for air show planes.
The event April 16 through 19, 2025 is the Camp Plymouth Military Vehicle Show & Swap Meet in Plymouth, CA. It is the largest annual MV event west of the Mississippi. Military aviation fans might consider attending our show and going on the excursion to Sanders, which will include a loop in the Gold Country foothills. I am sure our coordinator will find some empty seats in military jeeps and trucks. He will be working on this starting in November.
Sea Fury with Sanders Smokewinder smoke generators, which look like Sidewinder missiles and attach to standard rails. They sell these to civilians and foreign militaries.
