Towing M915A1 Backwards with Truhitch

I watched two sell last week at Camp Shelby for around $4100 and $5400. I really liked the looks and design, but didn't know enough about their condition to bid. Do they fit on a 2" plate or the larger hitch on the 916/920s?

It is really a great tractor accessory.
Yeah, they looked to be in good shape. Someone got a good deal. On of the nice features is that they have 2 interchangeable king pins and are designed to be operated with nearly, if not all commercial and military tractors (5 tons, M915, M916, M920, M911, M983 HEMTT, FMTV, M1070 HET, etc.!)

The hyros have their own self contained 24v pump. The batteries are charged off the tractor.

The really cool part is when you want to remove the hitch. You work the controlls and it removes itself. Maybe M1075 has some pictures of that.

Nice unit.
The Tru-Hitch fifth wheel towing device is a self-contained unit. It has two 12v hydraulic pumps and a 2 battery system. They are designed to work with virtually any military tractor (M818, M931, M915, M916A1, M920, M911, M983, M1070, etc) or any civilian tractor. There are interchangeable kingpins, with wrench included to change them! It can be charged with standard commercial 12v trailer light cable or a special 24v military cable (common NATO on truck side, unique connector on Tru-hitch side). Not sure why they didn't use standard slave cable. aua

so forgive me if im missing something but how do you transport it without towing a truck? Seems the tru-hitch would flip the fifth wheel plate back and drag.

Looks like an awesome way to do a recovery though, keeps things fairly headache free.

Everything retracts and it all folds back onto itself. Kind of looks like a truck bed when stored.

For transport, there are two legs that rotate down and sit on the ramps of the tractor. A chain is used in the rear to keep it from bouncing off (yes I have done that once). This is the best pic I could find of the Tru-Hitch in the transport position.

Oh well - here goes anyway, you know, for future reference!, and 'cause this a informative thread so it's nice to BTT it.

Pic shows both kingpins issued with the unit (2" and 3 1/2") so that all tractors in the current inventory can use this retriever.

man cool but it seems when you go over a slope like pulling in a truck stop on a little ditch that it whould drag the ground is that true not much ground clearance

I think you are looking at "highway" setup.... It has the range to act like one of those "singlewide" transporters with the hyd cyl that picks up the hitch to compensate for road crown etc., when positioning said house.
Stability would be compromised at highway speed if the casualty was lifted unnecessarily high.
