I made it easier for me to separate the transfer case from the transmission on my m1123 and thought I should pass on the modification. From center of the transmission with doghouse removed I measured 13.75 inch’s and cut a small access hole back to the rear support bracket that runs behind both front seats. I just lined up the front edge of this support straight across. I made the home the same width as the hole for accessing the top of the fuel tank. I’m just going to use a section from a spare piece of humvee deck I got to make a cover similar to the one covering the fuel tank access hole. It makes taking the transfer case out a breeze.

this is a non-issue…I’ve removed plenty of tcases with no issues.
Just out of curiosity and because I am a noob, how often does one need to take a T-case out? And what for? Is this something I should prepare myself for in the future (removing the T-case, not the access hole)?

Thanks!

Driving them in the big green weenie never really had an issue. We used to thrash these things but they kept on chugging, so I would say not a bad vehicle to buy. My range fork went out simple fix for about 50 bucks easy fix. I just wanted a easier way to get to the bolts and the government already made a hole to access the top of the fuel tank so I thought what the hell copy from them and make things a little easier now and in the future if I need to do it again. I plan on using this for it intended purpose so if it makes it quicker and easier for future change outs why not. Remember this thing was designed to be worked on by 18 year old kids and mil spec only means built by the lowest bidder. This is the internet so everyone has to put their two sense into things. This was just the route I took and thought I would pass it on.

Is it a full moon? A lot of new members are coming in and shooting aggressive comments at longtime and respected members.

The person that this OP is currently dressing down for being able to pull a transfer case is RWH, who is easily the most experienced and most knowledgeable person and most helpful contributing member on this entire HMMWV forum.

WTF?

Im not seeing the issue. I posted something outside the box of thinking that might help someone with a different option for the resources they have and now people get butt hurt over it. If this is what this forum is about than count me out. If a guy can’t defend his statement just because he is a new member than what is this all about.

In the mechanic world this is called sarcasm. Just normal joshing around like me saying it’s easy to pull the final drive off a d9l or take the swing transmission out of any excavator. I can say it’s easy but if someone had a different way of doing it I might tell them that the way I know isn’t a issue and that guy might fire back at me with a sarcastic remark when he does it a different way. Thinking out side the box drove many of the advancements in society, but hey I’m just one of those internet idiots typing in the moment.

No. That wasn’t sarcasm. It was one-up-manship towards a valuable helpful member who has bailed many of us out countless times.

Don’t try now to minimize your statements.
