Transfer case broken

Thought the slow ooze (no dripping) was coming from the filler or drain. Finally got a closer look - with my glasses on - and what I thought at first glance were casting "flash" turned out to be a series of cracks:

Question is, this one is from a 1992 model, is marked C15367. Model 18AM, ASSY No 5579 508 SN 9 12 85 1 Ratio 261

What I'm pulling up everywhere is 272 cases, and not sure if this is a direct replacement (Hummerparts guy when I did a search for the C15367 showed the newer model, superceded.). Want to be sure I buy the right thing.

Thats is a good ol 218 T/C....get rid of it.
Replace it with a 242 T/C.
242's are slip yoke type, so you'll have to replace 2 drive shafts.

You can just buy a used 218 and slap it in with little fuss and be driving again soon. Probably around two to three hundred dollars plus shipping.

One more question.

Searching the parts books for the NP242, PN 21908 NSN 2520-01-409-2512. Searching this website for details on which propeller shafts to use. HPG says PN 12447113, doesn't show up in parts books 24P-1 or 2.

Anyone know exactly which parts I'll need, NSNs, PNs?

Of course I COULD wait until I talk to easternsurplus tomorrow, but another approach would be which book is this in?

On a 242 Tcase, Your rear drive shaft will be determined on which model you buy...there are 2.
easiest way to tell is 4 bolt tail cone "latest" or 3 bolt tail cone "early"
242 is a superior Tcase over the 218 and the direct replacement for the 218.

NP 242 on order from eastern surplus.

Thanks for the help/tips. Now to print out the section of the manual on replacing this.
