i have a 67 m35a2 bobbed w/w. i have a horrible leak out of the front "seal" on the transmission. it is definatly gear oil. smells like G.O. and im not losing any engine oil. yesterday i drove her about 10 miles and she sat for an hour and a half give or take when i come back to her there was a puddle of G.O. at least 10 inches across under her. i have been told that the deuce has an oil slinger instead of a front seal kind of a noob so idk what this really means. how much of a pita is this to fix. do i have to tear down the trans to replace it? is it adjustable? any help would be gratly appriciated. thanks guys.

You will find that most (99.9%) of the questions regarding deuces already have excellent, highly technical threads dealing with the issue. Learning to use the search feature will greatly help you in your ability in maintaining your truck.

Here is a good thread to get you started:

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/44253-transmission-leak.html

As always, when pre-existing threads already cover the topic at hand, new discussion needs to be carried over to those threads. There is no point in either taking the same ground twice, or fixing problems in multiple threads on the same topic. Kind of makes it hard to find answers in the future!

No seal. Make sure the vent isn't plugged and the trans isn't over full. Check it on level ground.

Drain about 12-20oz from the trans if the GO is right at the fill plug hole. Make sure the vent is working. You should be good to go.

The front cover may be leaking.

I think your probably right Doghead. The vent looks fine and have reserviced it twice. guess I'm dropping a trans this weekend. First time dropping one in a deuce. Any tips or tricks to make it go a little smoother.

While you have it down, I would replace your engines rear main seal. Costs about $50 and only takes another hour, tops.
