Truck Down-Fuel Pump Dead

Got in the deuce this evening, it cranked right up, warmed it up and drove it 10 miles or so to put some fuel in it, E-Brake doesnt work so I shut it down w/o running it for 5 min. and put it in gear to hold it. Put fuel in it, paid, got back in and nothing. Did find that fuel pump is not working, going back to check fuse and test it with the multimeter. If there is something else i need to check to get the pump working call 980-622-3074. Thanks

Nothing like no electrical? The main wire runs on the firewall by the lifting hook on the engine. Mine lost all electrical power because the wire had rubbed in half. The wire runs from the area of the starter wire over to the area of the steering shaft. Check to make sure yours did not rub then arc in half. Mine had been twisted together and taped by a GI. I soldered in a new wire and put plastic wire loom over it to protect.

The lack of the fuel pump running will not stop the truck from starting.

The joy of a multifulel is that you can strip every wire off the truck, bump start it and drive it home.

It has power and is turning over, just not firing up. I told him to look over the shut off cable and remove the cover and look under it to to see if it is stuck in the off position. We'll see what he finds and go from there.

Alright, checked the fuse under the cover on the tank and it is good, checked the voltage going to the tank and it reads 25V, checked under the stop cable cover and it moves free. Checked the primary fuel filter and its dry, secondary and final filter contain fuel. Batts. each have 12.5V and together they read 25V, truck turns over fine. But the pump is dead. Will try and fill primary filter tomorrow and crank, and order a pump.

try holding it to the floor while cranking. my truck was actin a fool for a while and i had to do this even when it had been at operating temperature. some times i would even have to shoot some either into the mushroom cap and hold it . it would crank alot but work its way to running. i think it was from crappy fuel i had in the truck

Did you check for voltage on both sides of the fuse? The fuse holder contacts could be loose or dirty. squeeze them a little tighter and see that you have volts on the pump side fuse tabs. Also check your fuel tank ground wire connections(meter the tank to frame for continuity).

Some guys here have used a leaf blower to pressurize the fuel tank to feed the fuel up to get it started when their intank pumps are bad and they needed to get the fuel up into the filters.


Some wont like this advise but, you may be able to carefully start it on either and get the fuel pulled up into the Booster pump and it will go from there. Use only enough to keep it running and spray a quick shot when it dies to keep it going. Don't run it this way for more than about a minute. Too much spray or spraying after it after dies and before you crank can cause serious damage. Be careful!

I did not check to see if power was flowing thru the fuse I will check that today when I go back, and check the grounds. LOL I do happen to have a leaf blower handy.

I'd bet lunch that the primary is not dry but clogged up inside the can. The can clogs easily with sediment and funk.

My opinion also, but check the ground wire for the pump (#79), the tank itself is grounded via this wire....

Another thought that hit me this morning is when I was sucking diesel out a month ago I got alot of rust chunks, could one have gotten sucked into the pump and bound it up. I was close to "E" when I refueled.
Cranetruck- will check for spoogage in the primary this evening, as well as the ground.

If you can't hear the pump spinning, I'd start there first. Then if it spins, and still no fuel, I bet the bottom fell off. I have not messed with a take out pump where the bottom hasn't come loose. Then I'd check filter housings. They are not complicated pumps, I would take yours out and give it a good inspection. I PMed my cell if you have any questions looking it over.

P.S. I doubt it would suck a chunk of rust that would dammage it as it has screen all around the impeller.

Got the truck home, started it on either and got it running on fuel. Will not restart after you shut it off. So I do need the in tank fuel pump.

my intank pump was completely dead for about 3 years and my truck always started and ran. just put in a take out like a year ago and havent noticed any difference in performance or speed

Started it on ether, won't start otherwise. Hmm, is it a dog? Like really underpowered? Wonder if the fuel rate screws became loose and backed off.

You have an obvious fuel delivery problem, when did you change fuel filters last?

An air leak could also be the culprit, how is it when you open the bleeder valve on the secondary/final filter bracket, air bubbles or fuel?
