So we are invited to a emergeancy services meeting sunday. We turn out at 8-30 and start out to the event..my fire truck slows..stops..WTH?...crank//go 20 yards..crank again..another 20 yards.(18 meters!)..the m715 behind in convoy tows me all the way back (backwards) to the workshop hardstanding. So, check the fuel supply..ok. Check in tank pump..AH! not running..so wiggle the plug..and pump starts running. Truck starts..then goes another 20.34 yards and stops again! WTH?,,tow it back yet again. Slack off the fuel pipe out of the tank..."big squirt"..go to the filter under the engine..Nothing! ...change the filter..ok..Nothing at the two filters on the engine!.. crack the pipe TO the fuel pump..= Squirt..WTH?..nothing out of the filters..AH! ok..so 150 psi into the disconnected feul pump "in" line..(with line to filters disconnected)..and Clumps of..c...p! fly out. ..hmm..ok..clean out all filters and install new..re-check..and fuel flows again. Who would think that that inlet to the fuel pump ( or INSIDE ONE WAY VALVE ) was clogged? this could be a MAJOR problem for drivers out on the road. Who would check this? so, pump line "in" blown out..(with pump out line disconnected) and all lines re-connected..truck starts up on first push of the go button. So..IF your deuce (or 5ton) stops and filters ok..CHECK the one way valve into the fuel pump inlet.

Ok aso we did not make it to the event..(you have to slack off the alternator to remove the first filter) so correct adjustment carriied out at this time) ..but now all filters changed..fire truck running great again..and an unusual problem solved.

I don't think 50 bucks would do it..(not over here IF you could even source one) and I would not have thought that was the (imediate) problem. If I was enroute to an event. I would check fuel fuel flow, in tank pump, and then if no Flow would be stuck!. I only "insighted" this problem as I had a spare pump on the shelf and checked the in out supply by "sucking" the in out conections. my 1/2 penneth for anyione who's truck stops and appears to have no flow at the filters. (as it was NOT the filters that were clogged.).

You also need to check the fuel hose as they deteriorate. If you have crud in the bottom of your fuel tank get it out now. I have cleaned both of mine this last summer. Even though I only use clean diesel they still had a layer of scum on the bottom. I also changed out the tank plugs. The stock one is steel and has a tendency to rust to the tank. I replaced it with a good brass one.
