turbo muffler options?

I haven't been able to find much in the way of mufflers I could add on. I was thinking there's probably an auger type universal muffler, or maybe somebody has added baffles? See, it's not that big a deal, but after about 10 minutes of accelerating in traffic it gets annoying. My brother takes the brunt of it, plus it doesn't help our passenger window is slightly crooked and allows a big gap of noise to get in.

Any suggestions? How about lengthening the pipe about 6 inches to get it higher up and away from us?

If I were to put a baffled section in between the top pipe and the bottom half, at that joint, what's the general theory for diesel performance? I know mufflers aren't good, but how do they muffle them with the least amount of performance loss?

how bout a glass pack where the stack exits the fender? you could buy the longest one you could find, cut the stack off at the fender and weld it on and as long as you dont care about the joint it could be 4+ feet long, then just add on the stack that you cut off until its however long you want. no one would realy notice it unless they knew excatly what a stock one looked like and im sure it would cut down the noise alot. i dont think id mess with baffels made louvers but a baffel will make the turbo take longer to spool up and pobably get hotter not to mention maybe make less boost and we all know you will be needing all the power you can get with a stock ldt

now that i just told some one how to make somthing QUIETER i think i'll go beg the gods for forgivness

By blow through (I mean no louvers or baffles) but a pipe that is perfarated with holes with an outer cover filled with sound deadning material.We have one on our truck which was adapted to fit the original pipe. It defentially quietens the truck. My husband and I can actually carry on a conversation with this setup.<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_paw.gif" alt="Paw">

Did y'all make one or buy one? My wife has the same complaint. Another idea we have is to reroute the exhaust to the rear of the 109 box we have as well. 'Storm will be primarily a highway truck anyway, so we're not concerned about off-road performance.

<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_paw.gif" alt="Paw">If you want to go ahead and route the exhaust down under the cab out towards the rear and have it come out either between tandem or straight out the back. You will still have some of the resinating sound from the engine so you might want to make yourself a set of custom floor mats of insulation with od cloth material to make it look good in the truck. That is what we did to cut back on some of the engine noise. The next trick on the muffler need to check with a muffler shop that deals with medium to heavy duty trucks. You want to get a muffler that is like the ones on the basic box types/2 or 3 axle trucks. Many of them run compact mufflers that are blow through (no baffles or louvers) and have old mount on pipe cut off and weld to muffler and stick on like regular pipe and then put whatever tip you want on it. That's what we're aiming for too. We have Cornbinder, K-Whopper and Freightshaker dealers close by for various things, but just thought we'd ask what y'all have done. We'll probably keep duallies on the rear due to the weight we haul around with her. Uniseal gave us rolls of insulation to use for free(production errors and such) so we're looking for some desert sand flooring as well. I'll probably clamp on flex hose and put the muffler somewhere in-line using the old aluminum foil trick to seal any leaks.

If I could find some NOS or really good used upper stacks I have a baffle system that works very well at reducing the noise, does not impede exhaust flow, and retains the original look. I prefer to sell them already in the stack since it requires a large press to install them. haven't been able to find a reasonable source for the upper stack NOS or even used for that matter.

We went with the singles for less weight and better turning radius and better mileage. We cruise comfortably at 55 mph but top speed is 63 mph. We currently get about 14 mpg.<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_paw.gif" alt="Paw">

Did y'all change tire sizes to 11's? I'm guessing the hills down there slow y'all down. I used to live in Snellville (just south of US 78) and know the Atlanta terrain well. How do y'all sustain 55 when I'm struggling with 52? I'd love to see how y'all spec'd her out!

Would it help that much to turn the stack so the outlet would be facing more at a 90 degrees away from the cab? Or cut the top off and install a flapper top. <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_approve.gif" alt="Approve">I put a 5 foot section of 3" pipe on my m185. It is 2" higher than the box and a good 2.5 feet higher than stock. Just grind off the weld holding the stock flange then transfer the flange to the new pipe hit it with the welder and it clamps on just like the factory pipe.<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_jumpin.gif" alt="Jumpin">with the longer pipe, insulated soft top and cab(carpet insulation), foam seals around the doors and windshield. Not as loud? - YES Quiet? are you kidding me, If you are looking for quiet find a library<img src="emoticons/icon_smile_dork.gif" alt="Dork">. If you can get one quiet let me know- Pappa-g

yeah no kidding i think there are a few other places we can look as well. i invested in a few rolls of sound deadedner for inside the doors, the roof, floor, firewall, (both sides) and any other place i can stick the stuff. I got my eye on that transfer case, they sure are a loud little contaption or maybe its because there is no insulation on the floor

something I'm going to do for truck and maybe even the deuce is to Rhino line the whole interior. Well, not the whole interior, but the firewall, the floor, and around the back of the cab. In my truck I'll do the roof as well. Then I can get rid of the carpet and sagging headliner and crappy plastic door panels and stuff, and just hose it out when it gets muddy. No rust, no fuss. The only problem is that stuff is really thick so you have to do a lot of prep masking off every little hole and wire you want to keep

Guys;
'Storm has the Rhino lining in the cab, I even stuffed a BUNCH of insulation in the steel top, doors, floorboards, firewall and anywhere else I could fit it in the truck and she's still loud. My next move is to reroute the exhaust to the rear and add a flow-through muffler. The pipe ends right at the passenger's window and that's where the sound blasts through even with that window up and sealed.
