Turn Signal Help

Long time listener, first time caller.

My vehicle is a 85' m1009.

My right turn signal indicator stays on when the headlights are on. The light on the front of the vehicle is out. Well common sense told me to change the bulbs. Both the turn signal and side marker were changed.

The indicator is still on and the signal itself is still out.

One search informed me it could possibly be a bad socket or a bad turn signal switch on the column. Can anyone confirm either of these? All fuses are fresh and intact.

Thanksfor the help

Check all your grounds at the turn signal assemblies front and rear ,and clean same and all bulb contacts, then apply a little dielectric grease to the sockets . I doubt it is in the switch. I had the exact same problem and this was the fix. Good luck. Oh also disconnect your batteries first.

Welcome!

Okay, now that the formalities are taken care of, what truck1 said. Grounds, grounds, grounds. It's just good maintenance on these senior citizens, and it takes care of a lot of problems. Especially when it's weird and doesn't seem to make sense, grounds, grounds, grounds.

It's The Place To Start.

Okay. I already hit the grounds on both sides near the radiator. Are there anymore for the headlights? I haven't had a chance to get tail light grounds.

Thanks for the help. Need to get her road ready.

Probably the sockets. The turn signal bulb grounds through the metal tab on the side of the socket, the one that bends over the top and runs down along the side of the bulb. Many times this tab will develope a hairline crack right at the bend. It is very hard to see, but will create a very high resistance ground path for the bulb. What happens is when you turn on your lights, it is easier for the turn signal to ground through the other light circuit that it's normal ground path. The sockets are cheap at NAPA, get new ones and you will probably be good.
