So my take away is that there are basically two kinds of generators:

I have an MEP-016B, it does have a manual speed control knob. The TM on page 47 does say the Tachometer ranges from 3300 to 3900 RPM (and not to exceed 3600 RPM). Therefore, I would still say that my generator is of the "constant RPM" type, and thus true sine wave output?
Also correct?
(yes, if I did have access to an o-scope I wouldn't even need to ask....)

- Constant RPM with variable voltage and current - will produce the true sine wave.
- Variable RPM with constant voltage and current - which do indeed contain an inverter in the circuit (and thus all the potential issues (depending on your usage) of step/square sine waves).
