I think it would look great in shiny OD green!

BTW, mine was towed to my place using car hauler trailer with winch since the old tires were dry rotted but still holding air. Haven't replaced mine yet since they are still holding air due to having tubes. No plans to move it much since its hooked into power pole generator inlet box as opposed to providing mobile lighting service. It just has to standby until next power failure.

Only reason I'm putting on new tires is because GP ruined one.
Had to install tire boot and liner so the ripped tire could hold pressure.
Its ok to move around ranch a bit but definitely not for long term or any distance.

Originals (Goodyear) are cracked and weathered, but holding air just fine like yours.

I still might put it back on trailer instead of towing.
Have winch setup also.

Trace has been started.
Seller will have to file a claim when required wait time has passed.

Seller is wonderful and is sending another set Friday.

I am past ready to get this thing to the new location.

Its rare but packages do get lost, or stolen, in transit. I can attest to that:

A few years back I had a Breitling watch that I had sent to the factory for service. It was on its return back to me and I was using the UPS tracking # to keep tabs on its movement. Tracking showed it had landed at the Memphis UPS hub and then it didn't move for a few days. I became suspicious and called Breitling to find out what was up. They put a tracer on it and the box containing my watch was sent back to Breitling EMPTY! While in transit someone had recognized the coded return address "BUSA" for Breitling USA and knew a nice high dollar watch was inside and decided it needed a new home. Breitling apologized profusely and then sent me a brand new Breitling Aerospace watch. So all's well that ends well. Maybe you will end up with 8 tires...lol.

The seller is a member here.
Has been great so far.
If they do show up after the replacement set, I will refuse shipment so he gets 4 tires back.

The vendor SS member I tried to buy from initially was more than double the shipping price.
Would not come down a cent on tires or shipping. My business went elsewhere.

My GMT-II was sent Registered USPS mail. Locked up at every stop and also in transit and signed for every step of the way.
Very secure and if it did disappear, they know exactly who had hands on it last.
Much more secure than UPS and FedEx.

BTW they busted a large theft ring at the Memphis UPS a while back.
Involved quite a number of people.
I also had something disappear there and was glad to read about it.


I think I will trailer out the NF2D to its new home.
About 4 miles of the trip are dirt roads and it will fill up with dust, even driving that slow.
Can’t power wash a generator!

Pulling wheels and hubs today.
Will repack bearings since I’m sure they haven’t been done in years, if ever.

All the tires finally showed up.
Took a while.
Just replaced the torn tire today since I ran out of time.
Rest will be done tomorrow.

Posted part numbers and info about the rims since I had them apart.

Finally!!!
It’s at it permanent home.
All new tires installed.
I put reflective tape on the back to make it legal before driving on RT66
Towed it about 7.5 miles and 4 was dirt roads.

Towed great on pavement up to 25 mph. Didn’t dare go faster.
Went very slow on dirt road since it was still rough from recent rains. Not muddy.
Handled it better than expected.

Very happy

So I’ve had this unit for a while now.
It has come in handy much more than I ever thought it would!

The generator part definitely has since it’s mobile and I can tow it wherever I need power without having to deal with my other generator that requires being lifted into truck.

The lights.
I never thought I would use them this much. Almost weekly.
Two different small construction projects have been completed using them.

My brother was helping me build a new pump house and was getting really dark and we were not ready to quit.
Fired up the NF2D and hit the lights!
He just started laughing and saying how bright they were and we continued without issue.
Like working inside a football stadium.
Shadows of course but so much light is thrown that you don’t have any black areas while working.
Same with the other project.
Have used them for a few other things also and they are sooo nice to have.

Saying I’m extremely happy is an understatement.

The Kubota engine has been flawless.
Great fuel efficiency.
Went out the other night to start it. Was 19 degrees outside.
Powered the glow plugs for about 12 seconds and then it fired right up.

I do run and exercise the unit fully loaded at least two hours a week.
Lights on and heaters plugged in the outlets.
Excessive maybe, but keeps things working.

Of course now that I want another one, none have come up for auction. (Guam doesn’t count).

Today I serviced my NF-2D.
Changed oil and all filters.
Mobil1 Delvac 10w40 and all Wix filters.

Have put 62.4 hours on unit since I acquired it on 8/29/17.
Starts right up every time.
I do run it weekly to keep it happy.

Continues to be flawless!!
Still use it often. That will slow down since days are getting longer.
Fuel burn rate is excellent!
Seafoam and two-cycle oil are always added to fuel in appropriate amounts.


I also installed a second red top optima battery in line with the first.
Still starts the same, just added reserve power.

Factory Kubota radiator cap.
This is a perfect fit and is designed for the radiator on this unit

This supersedes the old post on another radiator cap that, while worked ok, was not a factory part.

Glad to hear your unit is working out so well. There has been one of these units for sale up with just 550 hrs on it in Portland, OR (Craigslist) for a while now. If I didn't already have 3 gensets I would consider making an offer on it. The older model NF-2 that I gutted and sold the Onan engine/genset & then used the enclosure to house my MEP-002a sure was fun to work with.

Want another one and of course the surplus supply has dried up.
Portland is too far as shipping would be killer.

It’s been very handy to hook up and tow around for ranch for power.
Beats lifting up my other generator into the pickup/trailer bed.
Having the light available when I need it has been priceless.


I’m still waiting to hear back from my FOIA request for the Technical Order.
Hopefully someday.

Tinstar I have a question about the MH bulbs. I have 5 of these NF2D's where I work. They all run great. I would like to get rid of the sodium bulbs and run 1,000 watt MH bulbs. I have access to a pile of free bulbs. Used but good. Have you had any issues running those with the HPS ballasts?
