Unknown fluid leak

Hey guys, I am a proud new owner of a 1986 M1009 CUCV. For the most part it is in really decent shape. Now here is my issue. I am noticing some sort of fluid leaking onto the floor board below the brake pedal. It looks a little red in color. I am not very mechanically inclined, but I am guessing that it is stering fluid. I was lucky enought to get the Marine Corps TM with it in the glove box. I read that the brakes are hydraulicly powered by the steering fluid. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid an idiot who pulled out in front of me and am guessing that it straind a hose or something. I can't seem to find a steering fluid resivoir to even check the level of fluid. Sorry to sound like a dunce, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day.

Yes, it has the hydroboost system, and yours probably needs to be rebuilt.

Search is your friend, well sometimes... use google or bing, etc to search the site here, as the search here is not the best.

Replacement, and probably rebuilding, of the hydroboost system has been covered here before.

Download the -20, -20p, -34, and -34p TMs to go with the -10 manual you seem to already have.

The reservoir is on the power steering pump.

My 85 1009 did same thing, got a new hydroboost unit, and a new master cylinder as I wasn't sure which was leaking, that and they both have to come off so it was cheap insurance..and I wanted to replace all my brake fluid to dot-5,Install was pretty easy if I remember correctly.seems like there was a diaphragm in between the 2 units and you have to reuse the old retainer its a push and turn thing (I think).I also put rebuilt calipers and new brake pads on.Then used a vacuum pump to bleed brakes,I then used vac. pump to suck nasty old brake fluid from brakes going back to drums in rear, made a big difference in braking..warn you now dot-5 fluid is expensive,we called it purple gold..haha, all in all it seemed like it was gonna be a big job but turned out to be pretty easy..not sure if Im allowed to say but I got everything from autozoned.
