Greetings from AZ. I recently won this MEP-803a, lots of good pics in the posting.

My MEP-803a

Description mentions "missing Fuse" cannot be tested/started. Here is a pic of what appears to be FU1 missing. Looks like the fuse and screw cap are both missing. What do you guys think?
Tier 2 Reset at LAD 09/2011, so my read is that the Fuse mod and MOV should be done. Please let me know what you guys think! I'm handy, pretty good mechanically and with DC electronics, but I'm especially good at breaking things containing DC electronics:hammer:

Should have it midweek next week. Fork lift rental to get it to the garage for pre-start servicing. Youth deer hunt and lots of basketball to work around this time of year! January pre-start service start for me.

Fuse mod is in there so you don't need that. If you need a MOV let me know. I can mail you one for $5.

They could have started the set without the fuse. That fuse is for the alternator output. It would run fine without it. It just wouldn't charge the batteries.

I see is has the heavy duty S1 switch already. (y)

Thanks for the info. I hope that's the toughest problem I'm up against. I'm a bit scared of a fully drained unit. Why is it fully drained, no oil filter, coolant overflow tank removed (but present).... Hopefully just drained for shipping and not a catastrophic failure.

It does not appear that I have the MOV on A1 between 8 and 9 in the PICS. For $5 I'll take one. Let me know how to send you the funds.

You found the right place to get the set running and set up to go...there is all the information and people to help you do just that in one place...I can't say enough about it...one thought that I did with mine to move it, unless you are lifting it up high on a platform, I bought some basic plastic one inch water pipe and cut it down to lay under the genset...I think I ended up with 6 chunks...I rolled it with ease with those under it...I used a cheap car jack to lift it high enough to get them under there...another helpful place to look is at the TM section of the site for the genset...it has all the written manuals for it with parts break down so you can find anything you need fairly easy. Mine was missing the fuse and cap as well when I got it but it still ran fine...the fuses I found on Ebay and my local electrical store, I bought several just so I would have a spare...look for a post about things to get for the 803 for mantainence and spare parts too...I think it is a sticky as well. If you want you can search up my writeup on how I got it setup and the several things I did to get it going have at it!

Often the fuse and cap are to be found in the control cube, behind something or under something. Its been know to fall out. I will also say, that nothing other then hotel towels are more commonly stolen, then that fuse and cap. Both are easy to get in the web. Do shop around. Some places want an arm and a leg. The cap can not be bought alone. You have to get the whole fuse holder. All the info you need to find it and fuse is in the -24P. I hope you have down loaded the TM's from the SS TM forum.

Will this work to safely support and move an 803a about my limited garage space? It's a 1500 lb capacity wheel mover missing the bottle jack(easy replace) and I don't initially need to lift it any further

Lots of great ideas in this thread --> Casters
My implementation is post # 3
Simple 2x6 construction and 4 heaver casters. Works great and doesn't waste any precious floor space in my garage.
If you go the casters route be sure to use 2 fixed and two swiveling casters and not 4 swiveling casters.
Ahhh, should have known you already slayed this dragon. The pics are great and present a stable and cheap option to move it about.

I have bigger mobility plans that will involve welding and result in the ability to winch it in and out of my truck bed quickly and safely.

I was looking at this cabinet dolly, plus good for moving gun safes, but $400 is a bit steep right now with shipping and a fork lift rental to pay for!

Where did you get the casters and what is their weight capacity? Any tipping concerns with your caster platform?

No tipping issues at all. I roll it outside 2-4 times a month. Never had an issue. Concrete floor onto asphault with about a 1/2" drop.
With a design tweek you could locate the casters farther apart if it makes you feel better.

The casters were take off's from work. As I recall they were rated at 500 lbs each.
Hard caster wheels make getting it moving much easier than soft/rubber wheels.

Something else you may want to consider when finalizing your design:
I recently serviced an 002 that I sold to a customer 6 or 8 years ago. He had put it on a Pre-made cart he had found at a yard sale.
The cart was designed to move pipe / conduit around in a warehouse and it was exactly the right size to bolt the 002 right onto.
Now, it had 6 casters on it, all the same size, but the center 2 were shimmed down about 3/8" lower than the outer 4.
This is similar to how the wood carts at Home Depot are built.
I can't tell you how easily that thing moved around, not just in my shop but I rolled it out the door with a 1" drop down onto packed gravel and it was easy enough to move with 1 hand! it was incredible.
I think the center 2 casters being higher made it easier to turn as well as navigate the drop from garage floor to driveway.

I will definitely incorporate the shimmed middle caster to my design. Thanks for the tip!!!

So it's in my garage. Pretty much as advertised. Uship guy did a great job. $400 to him, $440 total, and another $200 for a fork lift rental.

Initial quick inspection, there is oil in the crank case, not much, bur some. It is full of coolant. Here are my initial visual concerns.

Slight rust line where the head Meets the block.

I think more pictures. Unless you KNOW this type gen set, there might be things you don't see. Missing or maladjusted stuff. There are several people here, that might see something in a picture you will not know about till later. And the control panel and inside the control panel that are places that this can happen.
