Totally agree ! I could use that to move around the heavy engine blocks and transmissions and transfer-cases around here. As it is I have to get my son and the heavy duty hand-truck for the transmissions and transfer-cases. The engines need the neighbors tractor . He can only help on certain days though. So I can only work on his schedule which sucks. With that front hoist I could move anything by myself !

It would be nice to have some pictures showing how the stay cables are attached to the truck. Do they need something to hold them off the cab roof ? Or do they clear it ? Can they be adjusted to raise the boom ? Maybe attach a small electric winch to them ? I suppose it could be done even if the stock configuration doesn't allow it.

Found the answers to most of my questions from "CattleRepairmans" post.
Thanks !
I really apologize for this super-late reply

if you look at some pics from this SS thread

...you will find a couple sketches of the parts as wells as pics of how I attached the rearward-tensioned "stay" cable; I used a thimble eye and a 1/2-ton chain hoist connected to the rear hitch. I had to un-pin the tailgate to make the gap. However, I believe that the amount of tension under load of probably less than 200 pounds would not bend the tailgate if you just passed the chain over the top. The cable angle to the height of the boom I built will clear the top of the cab. I don't change the boom angle, but that can be done by adjusting the stay cable as you suggested.

I actually saw one in use in a logistics point in RVN 50 years ago. I guess if you had to move heavy objects and were not authorized to have a forklift then that is what you got.

Picked up 7 yards of mulch last weekend at the quarry. It's enough weight to make the truck work a bit.

Interesting part was following an empty on-highway dump truck into the yard. 10 mph and 10 tires on the ground the dumper was throwing out clouds of dust. Same speed and same number of NDTT tires on my truck no dust at all!

I was surprised. Does anyone know if this is by design? Seems it would make sense to use tires that raise less dust in a military situation. I chalked it up to running 50 psi on tires with a smaller contact patch than the modern tires on the dump.

She’s on car show duty today.

This event will benefit First Responders and an organization that supports active duty military and veterans.

While today highlights the 1932 Ford (and 90 years of American history), the car show is open to most vehicles that are from 1972 and older.

I used mine last year in a 911 tribute mud bog. Otherwise it's my grocery getter. Never got lost in a Walmart or Meijer parking lot yet! Lol

The local Blue Star Moms chapter holds a quarterly packaging party where the goal is to pack 100 care packages for troops overseas. The packing party is held at a local restaurant. Then the care packages are loaded in a cargo truck for transport to the post office.

The event was a success again this morning!

That is mighty thoughtful and kind!

What all gets included in each of the packages, do you know?
