Uses for the Arctic Heater?

Hi Guys,
As an newbie to the M.V. world last year, I became the happy owner of an M35A3. Before she was sitting in my shop, I assumed it would be lacking a heater. Where I live we have 10 months of winter and 2 months of poor sledding. In the hinterland of Minnesota, I knew I must have heat and I couldn’t get it by building a fire next to the transmission selector.
At the very moment of my assumed need, our friends at G.L. auctioned off what I thought was, one, “Arctic Heater” kit for the M35.
My truck arrived 3 days after Christmas and I found out it didn’t just have a heater. It had a “thermonuclear device” that would remove your eyebrows and hair from your knuckles.
Well, naturally I won the G.L. heater bidding! When the delivery guy showed up a few weeks later, he said, “Where do you want this box?” I said, “Over in the corner of the shop.” Then he went out to his truck, came back and said, “Where do you want the other one?”
In one of life’s great ironies, I have TWO, Brand New (A-1), Arctic Heater kits for the M35... that I don’t need!
I put them in the Steel Soldier Classified add section yesterday.

What I really need to do is buy two more M35’s that don’t have heaters! Duh!

I’ll go check with my wife and let you know how that works out…

Anyway, my question is: Can the Arctic Heater be used for something other than an M35 cab? How about the back of my M35 with the hoops and tarp on? What about the back of a shop van?
I’d like to hear about some other potential uses.

Thanks for all of the terrific information you guys have provided!

Hi Mike,
One of the guys PM'd me and asked if the Arctic Heater kit could be used for his shop van.
Since I don't know for certain, I thought I would put it out as a new thread question.
That is a nice picture of your shop van. I envy that enclosure.
From what you wrote, it seems quite a few components would work.
I just don't know what duct work modification he would have to make.

The shop van kit comes with a completely different set of mounting brackets, exhaust vents, different wiring harness, and on/off switches compared to what you have. I suppose a guy could use the controls on your kit to make it work. However, getting it mounted may be a bit of a challenge. Oh the interior of the M109A3 is AaronW's shop truck. I too envy the dual heaters. Mine has one heater.

I decided two heaters would be too much wasted space, so I bought one of the 60,000btu heaters. HA! The thing is the size of a telephone pole, but I'll be warm!

ya they can be used for other things. you can use it in the bed to heat the bed but you will need to fed some stuff for sure. the bed did have it's own special heater that was much larger but the cab heater would knock the chill off for sure.
