Using Civy Glow Plug Relay??

Still working on getting my recently purchased m1008 running. Ive saw lots of threads bout GPRs, but havent saw a specific thread bout using the civy version. I picked up the GPR from Orilleys for a 84 Chevy K20 with 6.2, i was gonna use the napa GPR109 but local napa was out of em. Ive saw threads saying the GPR109 with the s & i on them wouldnt work on cucvs, but the civy version i got from orilleys has s & i on it but its for the 6.2 diesel. Will this GPR work for me? Ifso how do i hook up the 2 small wires red & blue to the s & i lugs? Also ive tryd to understand the GPR mods but cant, some say run hot wire from 12v junction beside GPR to small lug on GPR? Can i leave gp card in place run a hot wire to small lug on GPR and a push button ground. to use jus when cranking the truck??

Here is the deal with the CUCV glow plug system:

The stock controller card only provides a ground path for the relay.

The small pink wire is hot when ever the key is in the run position. The small blue wire is the ground from the controller card. When the controller card senses that the GPs are needed it will close the ground circuit, which energises the internal coil of the relay, which closes the contacts, which allows current to flow from the batteries to the glowplugs.

All the relays are really a civvy version. The difference is how they are designed to work.

What you HAVE to have is a relay the does not use the mounting bracket as its ground source. If you happen to use one of those the relay will be energized at all times and your GPs will quickly burn out.

Without knowing the part number of the relay you picked up, we have no way of knowing if it will work.

With a proper style relay, all that is required to make it work manually is a two wires, a ground source and a momentary switch. No 12v hot wire required.

On the first wire connect one end to the terminal with small blue wire, the other end to a switch. The second wire will go from the switch to a ground source. No controller card required.

When you need GPs, push the button for around 10 seconds, let go and start the truck.

Easy peasy.

This does assume that all your glow plugs are working properly, the GP relay is the correct design and all the other wiring is still in place.

im using a BWD GPR1 from oeilleys, it mounts through rubber looms so i dont think its a grounded unit..

Other members have used that one with no problems except mounting it. They had to use longer screws.

It does not matter which of the two terminal you connect the smaller wires to. Same applies to the big wires. Just make sure that the two big orange wires and the small orange are on the same terminal. The wiring diagrams in the manual are wrong. My diagram above has been corrected for this.
