Ok, first, there is a 99% chance it is not a Marine truck, sorry. The Marines have not had M35s for many years. The last ones I saw were the M530C series, and we could not get parts for them, so ours stayed on the"Dead Line",till she went to DRMO around 1994. The trucks at GL on Camp Lejeune are from the NG and Army.
A good place to find the year your truck was made is on the axles. It is stamped on them. Cawl under your truck and look at the plate were the adjusting screws are. It is stamped in that area. I talked to a guy who work in the plant were the military rebuilt the M35s, he told me that when the truck went though a rebuild the axles were not removed. I have also read this in a story on how to date your M35, that the axle assemblies were not removed from the frame, so the axles on your truck should be the ones she came with. I had to make some rubbings of the date stampings on the axles on one of my M35s when GSA sent me a SF97 with the wrong date. They went by a rebuild data plate on the dash, they were super on sending a new SR97!

Take the manufacture code provided and plug it into BINCS to find out who the MFG is. I have a link to that on my VIN thread or you can do a google search on it.
just did a search for it...came up with: UTICA-BEND CORP

this is getting better and better!

if I did my research correctly, Utica-Bend was established only after Curtiss Wright bought the Studebaker-Packard plant in 1956...

ok, I think I'm getting more into this than I wanted to...

I will title it as a...

1953 STUDEBAKER M35A2

...and that is my final answer! HAHAHA!

Titling it as a: 1953 Studebaker Truck, Model M35A2 will be your most advantageous version if you can do it that way. Antique or Classic Plates depending on your state's requirements, and safety standards of 1953, which should be easily and cheaply attained, for street use. Insurance is also noticeably cheaper since 1953 is not a high risk/loss year.

BTW, my request for an SF97 is still active on the GL website...so I submitted...worst case scenario, I don't get it...and then I will have to try International Title Service...oh well, teach me to procrastinate!

I was under the impression there was a 12 month limit from purchase date for SF97's on GL.:confused:
I agree with mike, I think the fine print from GL states 1 year from end of auction to get an SF-97.

Options may be going to a titling service maybe, anybody have thoughts on that?

I saw from another thread other people using International Titling Services...says it's about $200 to get a title, but you have to send a notarized Bill of Sale...and that would be another headache for me...unless I just make one up between me and a relative and get it notarized! [thumbzup]

That would be a No Go for you on the title company. North Carolina is cracking down on fraudulent titles given out by title companies. Any antique vehicle with an out of state title has to be inspected by the SHP title task force. They have come to see me about a truck I owned years ago, the 1st owners got the title from a title company, I was the third owner. They wanted to know who has the truck now, I told them I sold the truck years ago to a guy up north. They have been to see me on every title I have got for my M35s from GL.
Good luck on the title. Bonding the truck might be the way to go.

Now, I have to go and find an insurance company that won't give me a hard time about that.

I suppose you could be cheeky and tell them that they have the title wrong, and that it has to be a 1953 Studebaker because AM General didn't even exist in 1953.

I am certain that Gulfway will write in your state, and won't even blush at the idea of your truck being a '53 AM General. They charge somewhere between $140 and $250 per year (historic) depending you how much you set the value of the truck.

That M number is a thing called a RUC code.. It actually tells you what USMC unit it was assigned to...
For example...
1/12 Artillery from Kaneohe Bay was M69009....
Or
Combat Service and Support Group 3 was M13001...
Its painted on the doors , front bumper, and tailgate....
I bet if you called up Camp Lejune (Pronounced LUH JERN) you could find out what unit it came from if you restore it as USMC...
Your VIN is on the frame.

USMC M-35s are kinda rare nowdays..lol...
