I need to know if there is a stamped vin on the frame of my 1968 m51.
The tag on the dash is too corroded to get a good copy of the numbers by rubbing,it is just barely readable, if you know what the numbers are.
Is there a stamped location on the frame for the vin?
thanks.

I'm not sure about the frame stamp on the M51 but I had a data plate I couldn't read. I took the data plate off and from the back, I could make out the stamping perfectly...give it a try.

There sure is a number stamped in the frame, its visible under the left front fender. I'd be willing to bet its not really a M51, but a M51A1, so the VIN will start M723 if it came with a winch from the factory, or a M51A2, in which case the VIN will probably begin 9523.

Does anyone have a picture showing the actual location? I've been trying to locate the VIN on mine, but I suspect too many coats of CARC have buried it. I'd hate to start stripping paint until I know pretty close where to look. I did find that Aircraft Stripper will remove CARC while trying to clean the data plact on my DTC 8606 forklift. Definitely need to use that stuff outside, will curl the hair in your nose.
