I completely removed the power cord and Ohmed the wires. Both red go to B and both black got to A. It was wired correctly internally. Just in case, I'll reconnect the reds to the POS of the batteries and ground the black to a frame ground. I got a bad feeling the 1780 is toast. Anyone know a good repair shop? Boy, Mommas gonna be pissed when I tell her!:(

If anyone repairs AM-1780's (other than the Army) please pass that on.

I have a question. Who did you purchase the VIC-1 from as the picture in your post is of one of mine
and tbank's sets? If you got it from us I would prefer before anyone else opens it up that we be allowed
to address this issue. Give me a call if you purchased it from us please,as we do check each and every piece
of what we sell and ship. PH# 859-808-0836
Thanks! popacom / BILL in KY. [thumbzup]

Vic1

As Popacom stated we have sold over 50 complete VIC1s over the last 3 years including 5 sets last week at Aberdeen. Many sold to SS members. We have only had 1 control box returned and I believe the volume pot was damaged in shipping or packaging. We check all componets before shipping. We will be more than happy to check the unit out and if it was our mistake replace it.You can reach Bill at his posted number or me at my cell 1-859-749-5659.Thank You. Tony

Tbanks, popasmoke, thank you! When I purchase something on ebay or where ever, I do as much research as I can. I don't buy unless I trust and your connecting has proven that trust. Won't say the equipment is to blame, I could have easily fried something (that's what you sometimes get when a fumble fingered crew chief handles electronics). As far as I'm concerned your record is still perfect! Sis just called and I'll give Bill a call. [thumbzup]

Without throwing stones, never could get the system to work:|. Went out on a limb and bought a $30 special...piece of crap, but then they said it wasn't tested. No kidding, they forgot to mention missing parts as well:evil:. So the saga continues. Found a NOS one, paid as much for it as I did for the system in the first place:shock:. WIll do a complete and total memorization of the entire manual as well as searching out the entire VIC 1 data base, learn all that is to be learned and then I'll think about hooking it up.

Stupid question...can the 1780A be hooked directly to 24 volt DC?

I know all the arguments about the surge protector and believe me, if it comes down to it, I'll find a functioning one and use it. I have my power cord hooked directly to the batteries and am getting 24 volts as advertised.

No, I bought the replacement NOS AM 1780A from Columbia Electronics. Never heard of bronco buddy.

Sorry to be dense and by all appearance you have some experience with the VIC 1, how did you set up your systems? I don't have a radio to hook into. I do have a SIGCARS (sp?) mount but I disconnected it and am using the correct power cable, tapped directly to the batteries for the 24 volts.

Great News!!! With lots of help, my system now works. It came down to a simple adjustment. instead of the flat tip screw pointing to other; it has to point to INT ONLY. Once I made the swith change; op check good, hope last long long time. Special thanks to Popacom and wsucougarx. Thank you for your time patience and putting up with all my questions.:beer:fat lady sings:D

Not to steal the thread but since this has good info why not keep it going?

For all of you VIC-1 and Commo guys:

I'm setting up a VIC-1 in my deuce and want to add a speaker in the back so I can give instructions during parades or other events. I have a LS671/VRC Loudspeaker Control Unit.

My questions are:
1) can I run something from the AM-1780 to this unit to power it?
2) can a CVC helmet plug in to port J2 so someone in the rear can talk back to me?

I know I can just use another C-2298 but I'd like to be able to have a group in the back of the truck hear me versus having to talk through another person.

Good questions! You beat me to the punch too! I have a speaker mounted in my truck; I assume it was hooked up to whatever radio system was in there way back when. Beings there was a SINCGARS (sp?) mount, I'm sure it had something to do with that. Anyway mine is a simple black box mounted by a singel bolt to the corner of the cab behind the passenger seat. it has the same fitting as the CVC helmet and the headsets that came with my VIC 1. What I'd like to find out is how to make it work with the standard VIC-1, no bells or whistles included. Picture will be posted tomorrow...too dark and snowy right now.

I thought of the same thing. So I installed a C-10456 (C2298 will do) on my headache rack. I have an LS-454 loudspeaker hooked into the control box so those without headsets can hear. Just in case they can't hear, I ran a CX-4723 cable to the rear of the truck ,off the headache rack C-10456, to another one I have mounted to the troopseats at the rearmost part of the truck.
