Wait Light Should I be concern?

I have a wait light issue. The wait light will flicker and stay on briefly. I always thought it was some sort of loose connection or a short.

A few months ago when I pulled my dash to inspect and clean the cluster lights I thought I had it fixed. Then it started flickering again.

Here recently the wait light has been coming on an staying on for a longer period of time. It will go out, flicker some, and come back on again.

I haven't had any starting issue or any other running issues.

Should I be concern about the wait light issue? Am I causing possible damage to other parts of the GP system?

Thank You,

CPF240,

Thanks for your suggestion. I think It may be something else. The GP controller card has been replaced. I will do some more testing and research.

My biggest concern is should I be worried about the wait light coming on while driving. I don't want to burn something up or cause issues with other parts of the GP system.
That's what I don't know. I can go through the GP system checklist. I don't have the knowledge to know if the wait light coming on can cause other problems?

Thank You,

My assumption would be that the wait light should *not* come back on again once it goes off, unless the engine has been shutdown and restarted after cooling sufficiently to need the glow plugs to operate. The Glow Plug Theory of Operation thread / sticky may cover that. Since the light is supposed to tell you to wait before cranking the engine, I don't see why it should come on again once the engine is running, as I doubt it has any diagnostic features built into it.

Perhaps the card is intermittently losing a signal that tells it the ignition has just been turned on? Still though, I would think by then the GP temp sensor would be telling it that the wait cycle is not needed.

A simple thing you could do would be to wire a light to the output side of the GP relay, and put it somewhere you can easily see it from the drivers seat, even if just up through the grill around the wipers. Then you'll know if the relay is being activated when the wait light comes on while driving, etc. Just don't let the initial after-glow cycle confuse you.

Maybe antennaclimber or the guy from CUCV Electric will chime in on this.
