Tried to install while attached to front number plate and she won’t fit.

Might I assume I need to install the darned winch after installing the front plate?

Also, I have the old style plate. Does the slot for the wire go upwards or downwards? Does the remote control box go on the drivers’ or passengers’ side?

I have a 1987 1038 w/ the old warn 6k electric winch...wire slot is up and remote box mounted on drivers side. Pretty sure my plate is the old one...Attached a pic. It’s a little dark, but if you zoom should see what you need to.

Thank you.

Now I just need to confirm whether or not I need to use a jack to lift it into position.

So do I need to install as two separate parts?
I am not sure on this part...mine was installed when I purchased the rig. In my simple mind I always thought if I had to take off and reinstall, plate would come off first and then winch and reinstalled reverse order.

Tobash,
We’re you able to install your winch?

As luck would have it, mine failed this weekend...I hear the click of the solenoid, but no motor action. Troubleshooting a couple of things, but recalled your post and was wondering which warn winch you were putting in...is it a newer warn winch, or a refurbished, etc. If i have to replace, wondering what options I have...right now I know i can go to a Sherpa and BD Customs makes custom plate that seems like the most straightforward, but would like to keep my current plate, setup if possible. Just seems like finding a winch to fit may be a problem.

Appreciate any thoughts you may have.

Sorry to hear about your failure. Did you pull it apart and see what failed. U might be able to rebuild it. Others in the forum have documented rebuilding winches.

I haven’t installed mine as I was stuck in surgery the past weekend and it rained memorial weekend as the Heavens were crying for our fallen troops.

I have another electric I was gonna use in the rear BUT it is much larger. I think it won’t fit within the front frame. It is a Warn 12 k winch IIRC. I will measure later this week. It’s in storage.

Feel free to PM me.
