What Are Velcro Strips for on my Deuce?

I had a truck recently in the yard (M109) that had velcro alongside the bed and fenders located (and sized) just right for placing the rectangular red/white reflectors specified by the FMVCSA for commercial trucks these days... I figured that somebody wanted to make the rig more visible when on-highway in CONUS while retaining the ability to yank everything off when deployed...

It had no velcro on the top of the hood... So the use on my rig may have differed from yours...

That velcro is not just for MILES gear. As cool as it sounds its just not true. We used the velcro to hold M9 chemical agent detection paper and misc other stuff.

The velcro IS for MILES gear.. I've done a few rotations at the NTC, and thats how they place it. The "brain box" and whoopie light go right on the hood, the sensors mount on the bed and sometimes the engine compartment.

M9 paper is stickybacked, and there is no reason to put velcro on it.

I guess we used some type of simulated M9 paper that was velcro attached during our ORE and ORI. Its just so happens to be the same places M9 paper is attached to equipment. if I remember correctly i think we even had Decon kits vecro'd to the equipement too for easy access.

My M1009 has the hook part of a hook/loop fastening system (trade name Velcro) on the tail gate, two strips almost the whole way across, I figured it was for attaching a "CONVOY AHEAD" sign. Didn't find it anywhere else on the outside, there was some on the ceiling inside where a dome light would be.

Do'nt let noone fool you. Try this yourself & youwill see it is a fact. The Velcro is for attaching WET SOCKS so they will dry out nice & fluffy at hi way speed. Those who have been in the bush during monsoon season know how valuble dry socks are.

If you have velcro like that, it is a very safe bet your truck has been to the National Training Center in CA, JRTC (Fort Polk) in LA, or the CMTC in Hohenfels Germany.

I can't think of any other places where I have seen MILES used on trucks like that.
